Avoiding that file parsing is neater and simpler, and rules out the questions asked. The "preset directory" concept is a good one.
You mean the proposal by Christian Boltz? Ok, I can bring that upstream as alternative implementation - I don't see that it solves a technical problem that the proposal does not but it's indeed a different implementation of solving the problems.
Hope that answers the question, you just asked me. I saw a simple but powerful suggestion that was better than the others. May be they prefer global enable default, but so long as it's easy to ship with disable default, no problem.
