Hello,
I'd like to submit GNU ddrescue for "official" inclusion into openSUSE, as I usually prefer it over dd_rescue (I have both installed).
nice, but it is actually already there ;) However, you might have a look at the package and check together with the maintainer about needed changes/updates. # osc maintainer -v openSUSE:Factory ddrescue Following to the development space: Archiving / ddrescue bugowner : realname userid email Kurt Garloff garloff garloff@novell.com maintainer : realname userid email Kurt Garloff garloff garloff@novell.com
Could someone be so kind as to further test / look over the package for flaws? The code itself should be ok[1].
Package: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=ddrescue&project=home%3Adnh Repo: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/dnh/ Upstream: http://www.gnu.org/software/ddrescue/ddrescue.html
Anything I missed? Suggestions?
If the package is "ok", I'll ask Kurt what he thinks about the naming-conflict, about a renaming of his package (only because IIRC everything but the actual rpm/package-name uses "dd_rescue") and me pointing to the possibly renamed dd_rescue package in the description of ddrescue, or I'll probably rename the "GNU ddrescue" package to gnu-ddrescue or something like that to avoid confusion/conflicts. Further ideas about that are also welcome.
Kurt's package has seniority[2], no questions asked ;)
-dnh (guessing it's only because there has been Kurt's dd_rescue for so long in SUSE, that "Gnu ddrescue" is not already included ;)
[1] compiles cleanly, I use it regularly, it's on gnu.org ... Low priority I guess ;)
[2] at least in SUSE. No idea who else packages Kurt's dd_rescue.
