Oh, they were trying and willing to fix it. IIRC actually the first response was "well, let's just fix journal". Then they looked closer at the problem and saw that this was not really possible.
"Everyone said that's not possible. Then someone who didn't know that came along, and did it." It's software. No situation is truly unfixable. In other places, they are replacing pulseaudio by the next "implementation du jour" pipewire, and somehow the same can't be done with sd-journal?
