You can get the source-rpm of the suse-ck-kernel here:
http://opensuse.linux.co.nz/ftp/pub/SUPER/files/
The ck-patches are here:
http://ck.kolivas.org/patches/2.6/2.6.13/suse-2.6.13-15/
@Andreas: btw. there is already a ck6-patch from Con. Will there be any rpms for this?

I think Linus's official answer I read on new schedulers is currently NO .... I can vaguely remember a kernel mailinglist post a year or so back about the CK patches, the staircase scheduler (with some interesting test results) ...... I sure would love to see Con's patches in the official Linus kernel, but der Zug ist abgefahren?
Maybe you can use your influences with Linus to enquire about it?
This has to be done the Linus way - convince the Linux kernel developers...
But what could be done is including a SUSE kernel with Con's patches and state clearly that this is a testing kernel, no support, no official kernel, use at your own risk, bla, bla, bla, ... So those who are interested could install it, test it and report back. I guess Linus doesn't integrate these patches 'cuz of stability, testing, reliability, ... issues. Not too many people are testing these patches or are giving back feedback.
Just an idea ;)
Sure, great idea :D. That is why I have created the rpm's now based on Con's official patches and the SUSE kernel.
I think the issue with the Linus kernel is that it has just adopted a whole set of schedulers and to integrate another one, might just be a little too experimental.
The more people using the ck patches would do the trick I am sure in getting it into the official tree.

Ok... Seems I've to clean my glasses ;-)
But it's not that hard to build a source-rpm including the ck-patches. You can install the kernel-source package from SuSE and apply the patch from Con or build your own kernel-source package with Con's patches. I can give you step-by-step instructions for that if you want.

Hi, can anyone tell me exactly what components SuSe uses to enable it's autorun features? By this I mean when you insert a specific media type, in Suse it automatically mounts it, starts some kind of auto run and then asks what application should be used by default to open it? I ask as i am interested in looking around for anything that might help speed this process up and make it feel a bit snappier. I would just like to know initially what Suse uses to do this? I don't know what else there is yet, but I would like to take a look around and see what I can find. GJ

SUSE uses subfs. Personally I preferred using supermount in the past, exactly because of the speed in which supermount just does it. But I don't know of the current status of supermount (was unmaintained for a while)and I guess this would be quite tricky and foremost very custom to implement into a SUSE installer? Andreas
Well I had a play previously and I'm not sure that subfs is all Suse uses. I mean subfs only handles the mounting and unmounting components, right? But what about the actual autorun feature itself? Something seems to be 'listening to the drives' looking for newly inserted media and then offering to launch the correct application. Are you saying that sufs handles all of this? I don't think supermount really is maintained any more - I don't know why. and it's kind of worrying too that subfs hasn't been updated for a while either. Somebody should really take useful projects like this up and try to stop them from falling into obscurity. GJ Andreas Girardet wrote:

OIC good question .... maybe some kde autorun feature ... I am just guessing

Yes ... Somebody often results in nobody unfortunately ..... especially with less "glorious" projects like that. Not much fame in cdmounting ;) Andreas

hal provides CD polling on system level. On desktop level we have suseplugger who does most of the hotplugging. I understand this will be merged to "kdemm" upstream, or replaced by at least. On GNOME side we have gnome-volume-manager. Ciao, Marcus
Hi where can I get a source package for SuSePlugger? GJ Marcus Meissner wrote:

Sorry I'm going to be a pain in the butt, thanks for the speedy response etc - but do you have a link to an actual source package? I am not at home just now and don't have access to my Suse/RPM machine. I just want to have a bit of a look and a play around with it. GJ Marcus Meissner wrote:

It is in the "kdebase3-SuSE" source rpm.

I don't want to seem as though I am being lazy, but I have looked for several hours for this package and now that I am back home and did eventually find it, it is giving me errors trying to install/extract it. I wont really be installing Suse 10 again until Gold comes out (which is when I intend to install all of the Super patches) but I would still very much like to look at this specific package. Could any one please point me to where I can obtain it directly - or if it isn't huge, mail it to me? (I have a 24Mbs connection, so I should be able to handle most things). Any assistance would be appreciated. GJ Marcus Meissner wrote:

:D ...I am too blind as a bat, mate .... -12 shortsighted here .... I will be uploading ck6 in the next few hours and put it into the apt repository. Have fun with it. BTW .. You can also find my packages now on gwdg.de as suser-agirardet .... I am also currently using install-log to get the ati driver and nvidia driver properly working. I just do not want users to have to download kernel-source, gcc and glibc-devel just to get 3d working. Will test it on clean install this time ..... :D Andreas
