Would that also be true for a USB connected external DVD burner drive? If yes then what device would I find it under in My Computer? Where would I find it in YAST? Thanks, On Sunday 05 November 2006 14:26, werner de witte wrote:

Hi,
I was trying to search the hardware database for supported DVD burners/writers. Under the 'extended search' the 'Category' - 'Storage devices' does not include DVD writers. Are there any supported DVD writer's in SUSE 9.3?
Thanks,

in your "my computer" folder and using Suse , any version that I can recall.. the dvd or cd player or burner doesn't appear unless you have a disk in the drive, at which time you will notice it, as it will look like some iconic representation of a cd or dvd.. Suse shows your media drivers in the /media directory, and , of course also in the /dev directory, but if you wish just to see if it's recognised, look in media , it will be called something like cd or dvd recorder (assuming you have a recorder rather than just a player cd is usually called cdrecorder and the dvd is dvdrecorder, oddly enough. ;) that is all that needs to be done since 9.1 on.. nothing in yast or anywhere else. You can record data as well as multimedia , even video there is a Divx for Linux as well as emovix ( all purpose video player you can put in a disc w/ lots and lots of movie clips, if you have a capture card... ) You need to get lame or use Real Player for mp3 , Kaffeine will play mpegs and Divx IIRC you need to locate libdvdcss *or* use a ful copy of Mplayer to decode movie dvds to watch on your computer. Hope this helps, or gives you a few places to look for more info.. -- j See ya Space Cowboy
