Yesterday I got Cinelerra to compile. I used git version of Cinellera CV (community version) which compiles after whole a lot of dependencies was manually installed. Problem is that without Packman libraries there is no dice. Message that library is missing usually means that libfoo-devel is missing. The only thing that is somewhat confusing is libfftw3, where openSUSE has fftw3 package so one has to search for later. Anyway, without compilation it fails on first file opening, right now it opens some files. Also, there is a lot of warnings, which doesn't give me confidence, but during compilation messages are flying so it is not easy to capture what is going wrong. The Cinelerra HV (Heroine Virtual - the original) failed, but I had no time to check why. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-multimedia+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-multimedia+help@opensuse.org

I used cinelerra from yast (don't know what repo), on 11.3, without problem else than frequent crashes, probably due to the lack of memory. this software also is very old (before year 2000), so interface soecial, vocabulary special and file formats limiteds. Seems to be mostly used with jpeg (one image is one jpeg file, professional format, with 24 files for 1s film...) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xgxog7_clip-l-ombre-et-la-lumiere-3-bad-pig... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGgv_ZFtV14 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-multimedia+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-multimedia+help@opensuse.org

fftw3-devel should be the correct package, it's part of multimedia:libs which I maintain and used by just about everything multimedia. I'll get the cinelerra tarball and tell you what's needed. The best way to go is to install the cinelerra source package and then update the sources in /usr/src/packages/SOURCES and the spec file in the SPECS directory. In fact I'll check the tarball out and make up a spec file and email it to jdd with instructions. Installing the source package will pull in all the build dependencies. cinelerra 4.2 is what I've found, you need to install the packman sources first zypper si cinelerra and as root after cd to /usr/src/packages/SOURCES and execute : aria2c http://ufpr.dl.sourceforge.net/project/heroines/cinelerra-4.2-src.tar.bz2 I'll get it building properly and mail you the spec and further instructions. You must also make sure that you have the newest ffmpeg + devel and mjpegtools from packman, the openSUSE one is crippled. I'm stuck on an faad2 error atm and have to go out, I'll continue tonight. The biggest problem is there aren't any configure options to disable quicktime and I think the expect you to install an entire system from sources. Phew, I've made it build at last with a patch and all internal static libs, now the "make install" section doesn't install. I've work in the morning till after lunch time so I need to sleep and I'm in a band in the evening but hopefully I'll get it finished in the couple of hours available. Hope it works. The patch is -p0 so cd to cinelerra-4.2, copy the patch to ./ and "patch quicktime/thirdparty/faac-1.24/frontend/main.c cinelerra-4.2-faac2mp4.h.patch" should do the trick. Then ./configure, make and sit back and wait for it to finish building. We speak about HV (Heroine Virtual) version, which is 4.2, and CV community version which is 2.1.5 right now, and as I managed to compile git version that is probably the one that I run. Packman version string suggest that source was obtained in August last year and that version is still 2.1. Details: http://cinelerra.org/

The interface is the same old, like few years ago.

It is easy to think that interface is the only problem. My problem right now is to learn terminology used in video editing, so that I know what options to use. Video editing is not the same as writing a text where majority of options are clear what they mean.
thanks

I've got a working knowledge, I used to play around with ulead video editing suite on win 98se. It works! The reason make install doesn't install to the buildroot, rpmbuilds installation directories, is the duplicates of system programs that exist. My morning work is late but has just informed me that he's on his way. I'm attaching the patch to enable the build and meanwhile, maybe somebody can build it, change to the cinelerra-4.2/bin directory and try it out. Dave P

the terminology change with any application! kdenlive is different from cinelerra and also from blender but at least the cinelerra layout is sipmilar to standard editors (the standard being Adobe Première in our world if you have any Windows workstation, Premiere have a free demo version - due 3 month - just to see what it is - i don't like it) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xgxog7_clip-l-ombre-et-la-lumiere-3-bad-pig... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGgv_ZFtV14 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-multimedia+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-multimedia+help@opensuse.org

They had a 3 month trial ulead studio in my 98se days, I see they still have a free version. I thought that was the standard, they've been going for longer than adobe. If you think cinelerra works I'll fix it up and pass it to videolan or packman.
