Hi, I just bought a color USB Quickcam, and installed SuSE 7.3 Pro. After modprobe mod_quickcam.o the module loads, then in /proc/bus/usb/devices I can see some reference to a camera (although I don't recognize any model information, it is all cryptic codes). What do I need to do to get it working as 1) a webcam and 2) a videoconferencing camera (with Gnome Meeting, for example)? I am guessing it will involve making a node at char-major-81 or something like that, plus, what additional software do I need to install? Thanks John

Hi John, Try to use xawtv (or motv if you like it more) to see if your camera is really attached or not. SuSE 7.3 sets up modules.conf in a way you don't need to add anything more. Also try to see in /var/log/messages (or dmesg) if the module recognizes the camera or not... Same with gnomeeting - if your /dev/video is alive, you should see the picture... Good luck :) Eduard --- "John C. Craig" <JohnCraig01@netscape.net> wrote:

Thanks for the advice. Actually, I determined that the model of quickcam I had was not supported by the driver as yet, so I returned it to the store. "What's wrong with it?" "Nothing, it just doesn't work with Linux" Then got a Kensington camera that does work just fine. Gnomemeeting works, and interacts nicely with MS Netmeeting. The Webcam daemon (part of xawtv) is not functioning as I would like, however. It grabs a shot or two, then dies. Camstream works fine, but requires the gui to be up in order to capture shots for the web page. If you have any thoughts about these issues, let me know. John Craig dich_ed@yahoo.com wrote:
