I tried your suggestion but I get the same messages. I think you are correct that there is some relation to the mcop directory.
It turns out, after a call to the SuSE help line, that the solution is to remove the /tmp/mcop-root directory.
Note that this also fixed a sound server problem that I had, by removing the / tmp/mcop-user directory for each user in my system.
I am new to using the Mailing Lists, should I also post this solution to the list?
Thanks for your help,

No I do not have a directory /home/trueg/k3b/ Is this directory supposed to be there?
I only have what SuSE installed.
Do I perhaps need to reinstall k3b?

When I run k3b as either a user or root it dies after it diplays the k3b logo.
Here is the xterm output.
samhaber2:/dosd/Download/Linux_files # /opt/kde3/bin/k3b kbuildsycoca running... samhaber2:/dosd/Download/Linux_files # QRichText: no mimesource for /home/ trueg/k3b/k3b_welcome_large.png mcop warning: user defined signal handler found for SIG_PIPE, overriding /tmp/mcop-root is accessible owned by user Mutex destroy failure: Device or resource busy
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?
Looks from the messages like it is looking for /home/trueg/k3b/
does that directory exist and do you have permissions on it? Are you logged in as trueg? Do have a normal home directory based location for k3b's user based config files? dow
I reread your post and I think that /tmp/mcop-root is writeable by a user which should not be. Those /tmp/mcop-blahblah directories are supposed to not be writeable by others. You probably had an error where that directory was created or changed to have the wrong permissions.
chmod 755 /tmp/mcop-root
might fix your problem. Dow
