Hello, I'm again in the way of testing most dvd authoring tools. I do this in 11.4. see: http://dodin.org/wiki/index.php?n=Doc.DVDAuthoringWithOpenSUSELinux and also: http://dodin.org/wiki/index.php?n=Doc.DVDReadersInOpenSUSELinux the present problem is that for two of the applications I had problem reading mpg files. I forget which one was the first (2mandvd?), but the last is DeVeDe the problem come when I have to insert a video file. I open a file open windows, clic on the needed file... and wait, and wait... say more than two minute for 100Mb file (just verifyed) wich makes building dvd very difficult. The mpg files are already of the desired format for dvd (created by ffmpeg), and I used DeVeDe on a much slower computer some month ago without problem. I use a 64 bits i5 computer with 4Gb ram. During the wait, top do not show any application with more than 2% cpu! do you have an idea of the way I can help debug this? by the way, after that creating the dvd took only one minute and a half (no recoding) thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.youtube.com/user/jdddodinorg http://jdd.blip.tv/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-multimedia+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-multimedia+help@opensuse.org

thanks jdd Sounds like it creates the dvd structure during the loading of the file if the format is correct. Have a look in the setup options and see where it makes the dvd structure ie. menus etc. and see if this is what is happening. The app might have a command line verbose or debug option and you may be able to pick something up there. I use DVDStyler although mandvd seemed the easiest to use the others didn't work for me although it must be a year ago when I explored them. AFAIR one of the dvd apps allowed you to enter the commands used for dvd creation.

should not be that long IMHO it scans the file (I see a mplayer instance, with very low cpu usage). At this moment I could not yet say that I don't want the film to be recoded - oit's done in the next screen

jdd When you create the dvd the log states what is happening and the program that's used to do it. You can start it from the command line : "dvdstyler -e" and it will write the log to standard error which can be copied.

thanks jdd Well I tried a couple of small avi's and got an ffmpeg segfault which makes me think that dvdstyler is doing something to provoke it. DVDStyler v1.8.2.1

[mpeg2video @ 0x18d7e50] rc buffer underflow Segmentation fault I'll run it through a debugger and see what's going on and maybe I can make ffmpeg do it from the command line. I was confused about the menu part but now I remember that the images for the menu have to be converted to the same format as the video. I used a plain button with no background. I also have a different version of DVDStyler installed. Are your menus stock dvdstyler or do you use your own creations also the background format is important. I'll try a video menu but I suspect that it won't segfault. My instinct says that it's libavformat that's seg faulting and it's either getting overloaded with tasks or it's choking on the menu formats. I have a home built new dvdauthor but dvdauthor is not in the picture and I've just checked and I still have a home built cpu optimized ffmpeg and libs ffmpeg-0.6.201103092102git-1 and I've used it extensively since I built it from the latest git. I think the first thing to do is build another from today's git check out. I've had some mplayer problems where I suspect it caused a bug with libpulse or something related. I normally have pulse audio turned off but suddenly Thunderbird and Firefox started crashing when I right clicked or selected a menu or certain tool bar items. With pulse audio turned on everything works a really difficult bug to track down, I originally filed a bug against tbird and ffox but when I got a debugger on it, it turned out to be libpulse crashing.
