Re: [suse-multimedia-e] Continued Problems with Sound
Does anyone have a solution? (You can't tell I'm frustrated with this can you?)
I have 4 different SuSE systems here, all with different audio cards, and I didn't have this problem... Which audio card are you using? You can try some test: first, if you try to log from a console, how are the things going? It is the same or not? Secondly, are there any errors reported in /var/log/messages during startup? And during audio initialization? And after you delete and reinstall the audio card? Also, what's the output of the command lsmod? Does it show audio modules? Are they the right ones (the ones for your card)? Ciao, Roberto

Actually, there is a built-in on the motherboard (VIA 8235) and a Creative Labs Ensoniq Audio PCI (Model ES4815 / CT5880). Both are in as I attempt to get one to work correctly. As near as I can tell, the drivers are correct. I have also been known to select them manually resulting in no differences. It is interesting that the lsmod command results in references to VIA 8233 rather than the 8235.

The error message is : (Date/Time) linux kernel: ALSA via82xx.c:699: invalid via82xx_cur_ptr, using last valid pointer

It's hard to tell, but it looks correct in general. Although I've used Linux in various forms for years, I've never tried to use sound in Linux to this extent before.
Ciao, Roberto
I was wondering if you maybe had a built-in plus your card. I may be wrong by now, but I believe KDE and Alsa has problem with more than one card. You didn't mention KDE, but I'm betting here... I had that problem at first, but don't use KDE much anymore, and have NO problems with two different brand cards under any other window manager, my pref being icewm. The problem with KDE may well have been addressed by now, but I noticed it when I went from S8.1 to S8.2 On Mon, 2003-07-14 at 18:35, Thomas Parker wrote:
