What webcam for Linux?

Hi all. I'm running SuSE 8.1 pro and would like to get a webcam. Can anyone recommend a webcam that will work under SuSE 8.1 pro, and that will continue to work when I upgrade to 9.2 pro or higher releases? Logitech may work with SuSE 8.1 and the pcw/pcwx driver. There seems to be a problem with this driver being a part of the kernel. Please see http://www.smcc.demon.nl/webcam/ for the related discussiom.
