I am using amarok 2.2.90, kde 4.4 (release 223) and Phonon Xine backend on 11.2 - and mp3 play fine
Amarok worked on this unit also in 11.2. It started failing on openSuSE 11.3 Milestone 2.#. It also look rather un-fixable at this point. The error message is "Phonon lacks mp3" something om version 2.2.git. The goodnews is that open SuSE's version plays one of several hundred artist. The Rippingtons only. They must be early mp# files. They are oggs - no wonder.
