Hello, From your dmeg it seems it does find eth0 (it says eth0: no IPv6 routers present) but I can't find what chip your computer is using. i found messages relative to the broadcom chip that should provide wireless: http://forums.opensuse.org/network-internet/wireless/425454-bcm-4322-fresh-1... and: The 4322 requires the broadcom-wl package. The reverse engineering for that card is incomplete, and the b43 driver mods are not yet started. Hello, According to this webpage: http://www.int21.de/samsung/ (found by googling samsung p35 wifi linux) the wifi works out of the box with the ipw2100/ipw2200 driver. There is also the nice reminder that there is a hardware button that must be set properly for the wifi to work at all :) There's always the danger ofoverlooking things like that! Hi once more, Regarding this laptop, there's also a page http://www.thomashertweck.de/samsungp35.html that reports SuSE 9.2 running on it without any hitch. Apparently the Ethernet LAN is a RealTek (ntel 10/100 Ethernet UTP (RealTek RTL-8139) that, already, then was supported-so I assume it's not a question of support, but, rather, of network configuration. By the way, from the dmesg I do notice that wifi is correctly recognized. What does /sbin/ifconfig say, or netstat -r ? It must surely involve the connection to the router. How about /etc/init.d/network restart (as root)? Best regards, Stam Le 13/12/2009 17:53, Sascha 'saigkill' Manns a écrit :

Hello, These files definitely show that it is a problem of connecting computer to router and not of lack of support from kernel/modules since ifconfig sees the card, but netstat doesn't see the network. And that depends on how the internet service provider expects the connection to be configured. Best regards, Stam Le 13/12/2009 20:23, Sascha 'saigkill' Manns a écrit :

The dmesg says that this machine has a bcm4400 gbit ethernet card built in. There are probably different P35 versions around. The b44 driver is loaded, which should be able to drive this card. If possible, I'd try a different ethernet switch first. I have had issues sometimes with some NICs not wanting to communicate with some types of switch.
By the way, from the dmesg I do notice that wifi is correctly recognized. What does /sbin/ifconfig say, or netstat -r ? It must
Sascha is talking about LAN, not WLAN.
I've attached the output of ifconfig and netstat.
Maybe the output of lspci could be helpful, or try "ifplugstatus eth0" to find out if the driver thinks that a cable is plugged in. Maybe the b44_debug module parameter can help debug this issue, but you'd need to look into the driver source for useful values for this parameter first.
Then nothing happens. He tells me just that he found network devices. But no connection comes.
Is this DHCP or a static setup? Checking with tcpdump if the interface sees any "foreign" traffic is also a good way to make sure the hardware is working. Good luck :-) seife -- Stefan Seyfried "Any ideas, John?"
