Hi once more,
Regarding this laptop, there's also a page http://www.thomashertweck.de/samsungp35.html that reports SuSE 9.2 running on it without any hitch. Apparently the Ethernet LAN is a RealTek (ntel 10/100 Ethernet UTP (RealTek RTL-8139) that, already, then was supported-so I assume it's not a question of support, but, rather, of network configuration.
The dmesg says that this machine has a bcm4400 gbit ethernet card built in. There are probably different P35 versions around. The b44 driver is loaded, which should be able to drive this card. If possible, I'd try a different ethernet switch first. I have had issues sometimes with some NICs not wanting to communicate with some types of switch.
By the way, from the dmesg I do notice that wifi is correctly recognized. What does /sbin/ifconfig say, or netstat -r ? It must
Sascha is talking about LAN, not WLAN.
I've attached the output of ifconfig and netstat.
Maybe the output of lspci could be helpful, or try "ifplugstatus eth0" to find out if the driver thinks that a cable is plugged in. Maybe the b44_debug module parameter can help debug this issue, but you'd need to look into the driver source for useful values for this parameter first.
Then nothing happens. He tells me just that he found network devices. But no connection comes.
Is this DHCP or a static setup? Checking with tcpdump if the interface sees any "foreign" traffic is also a good way to make sure the hardware is working. Good luck :-) seife -- Stefan Seyfried "Any ideas, John?"
