Any idea what changes you made to the system to allow it to shutdown completely? Thanks
Nope, too long ago. Have you tried the kernel boot parameter "acpi=oldboot" mentioned on the page? As far as I remeber the problem was somewhere in acpi_poweroff. Other solution: Update to a newer 2.6-kernel. The ACPI-patch fixing the problem should be in one of the 2.6-releases (sorry, don't know which one). ciao, Stefan -- Stefan Behlert

Hi, I'm probably totally wrong - because I've had such a problem years ago with SuSE 7.3. I'm not familiar with version 9 because I'm using 8.2 presently, but at that time, one hard drive didn't properly shutdown. The solution was to change a part of the file in /etc/init.d/boot. From: if test "$fs" = /-a -f "$des" -a "$type" ! = "reiserfs" To: if test "$fs"= /-a -b "$des" -a "$type" ! = "reiserfs" I'm absolutely not sure.... To all: same problem with suse 8.2 as well unfortunately. To Hermann: Well, was worth a shot, didn't work though :(. The hard drive seems to actually power down oddly enough, it's just the cpu and the power light (from what i'm able to tell) that remain on (and the cpu drains the battery quickly). To Stefan: Tried oldconfig as shown on that page, still no go :(. Will take a look at the 2.6.x kernel releases and see what i can find in release notes that mention the most about fixes for acpi. Thanks much, will give this a go and report back with results :) ---
