PC-card wifi Asus WL-107g + SuSE 9.3 + laptop nx6110 : some problems
Hello all I am trying to use on this laptop HP-Compaq (nx6110) a PC card Asus WL107g under SuSE 9.3. On this laptop there is WinXP too and this PC card works fine under this OS. When I say "it works fine", this means that a wifi network in my building is well detected by the Asus software dedicated to this PC card : green led (lnk) OK and orange led (ACT) OK. Under SuSE 9.3, the main problem is to detect (with kwifimanager) this network : it is detected but .... about for 1 boot on 20 boots of the OS. For each boot, the PC card (based on Ralink chipset rt2500) is well recognized (device ra0, green led OK) and the module rt2500 is well loaded. But the orange led is out ... except when network is detected. When I type "/sbin/cardctl info", I often see nothing in PRODID_1, PRODID_2, .... And this leads me to tell that there is perharps a link between "nothing with cardctl info" and orange led out. Is there really a problem with PCMCIA of SuSE 9.3 ? A problem of driver/module ? Is an entry for this card required in /etc/pcmcia/config ? Do I have to modify the /etc/pcmcia/config.opts, for example memory ranges or port ranges ? Or perharps I don't understand very well the behaviour of wifi PC cards :-) .... I can see files named wireless and wireless.opts in /etc/pcmcia/ directory ? To be modified ? Just for info, when I extract and insert again this card, I get this (dmesg) : PCI: Enabling device 0000:03:00.0 (0000 -> 0002) ACPI: PCI interrupt 0000:03:00.0[A] -> GSI 10 (level, low) -> IRQ 10 rt2500 1.1.0 BETA1 2005/01/02 http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:03:00.0 to 64 ..... Is there someone who could test such card in such laptop with SuSE 9.3 ? Kind regard Pascal

Hello all

Is there someone who could test such card in such laptop with SuSE 9.3 ?
The point of rt2500 driver shipped with 9.3 is that it is not working too well with standard linux wireless tools. Here is what you should do: 1. Upgrade to latest (beta 3 driver), you can get it at: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/rt2400/rt2500-1.1.0-b3.tar.gz?download All you need is to install kernel sources and then: - unpack the file - go to .....rt2500-1.1.0-b3/Module - run as root make and make install 2. Compile the configuration utility from ...rt2500-1.1.0-b3/Utilitys In case you would have problems with that write me an email and I will send you the compiled configuration utility (RaConfig) via mail. 3. run as root the utility and connect to your wl-network. With yast you should configure only IP GW or DHCP all other options leave blank. You should have no problems in my company we run some 50 SuSe machines with rt2500 cards.
Kind regard
