Hi list, I have a new laptop Vaio VGN-A617M with graphic ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700, 17” WXGA+ (1440 x 900) X-black LCD. I installed SuSE 10.0 but the graphic card was not recognized (I used the text modus). Now, I can boot the system but I can not switch to graphic modus. Can somebody tell me, were can I find the driver and how should be it installed? Thank you, Herbert Baier
Hi Herbert, schau mal auf www.ati.de -> Treiber -> Linux, je nach Prozessor 32 oder 64 Bit - Version. Du solltest Dir das RPM holen und gemäß Installationsanleitung einspielen, aber Achtung! Es kann sein, daß der X-Server mit der angegebenen Parametriereung nicht sauber startet, achte auf die Threads hinsichtlich ATI-Treiber auf dieser Liste. When I am trying to start “sax2 –r” in run level 3, I see in the Xorg.0.log file that the x-server tried to start in many resolutions, but not in the resolution of my laptop (1440x900). Try sax2 -r -l - this will use 800x600@75 which should work on nearly every machine. Alternatively, you can use the -V option and specify exactly what you want - see sax2 --help for details. BTW: Please http://learn.to/quote ;-) Regards, Christian Boltz --

Laut man radeon wird die Karte im 2D-Modus unterstützt. Probier mal, den X-Server mit sax2 -r neu zu konfigurieren. Wenn das gelingt, kannst Du anschließend mit init 5 die grafische Oberfläche starten. Falls auch das nicht hilft, kannst Du in /var/log/sax2.log nach möglichen Fehlern suchen (Zeilen mit "(EE)") - im Zweifelsfall das Logfile irgendwo hochladen und den Link hier posten. Hallo list, I started the sax2 from another Linux computer; I mean I redirected the display to another Linux computer. There I can see that the card being used is ATI Mobility Radeon X700 5653 (M26) (PCIE). Monitor -> LCD 1440x900@70HZ Resolution 1440x900 (WXGA) Colors: 16.7 Mio. [24 Bit] However, in the laptop I am still seen a black display. As attached I am sending the Xorg.0.log file when the x-server try to start after a boot. 1) Paket von ATI ziehen 2) Suse-RPM vom Installer anfertigen lassen 3) Installieren 4) Readme in /usr/share/packages/fglrx lesen Von einem zuverlässigen suspend to Disk kannst du dich allerdings dann verabschieden.
