What I was really trying to say was... I have installed SUSE 9.2 on a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop that uses the nVidia GeForce FX Go5650 chip. If I try to go into a DPMS power-saving mode under X, either automatically or by using xset dpms force ... the display does not turn off, but instead turns through strange colours to grey (like the image is solarised, if you know what I mean) or produces strange patterns. Tapping a key or moving the mouse restores the display to normal. DPMS worked without problem under 9.1, and Yoper 2, which also uses XFree86. I have never before installed x.org on this machine. Relevant bits of xorg.conf are shown below. Note that I am using the xorg nv driver, and not the NVidia driver, because I like to use ACPI S3 suspend. Note that this has been hacked manually to make it work with the Alps touchpad! Just to confirm: i have also seen this on nv with SUSE 9.2. The NVidia driver worked for me (but no suspend, yes).
DPMS worked without problem under 9.1, and Yoper 2, which also uses XFree86. I have never before installed x.org on this machine.
seems to be a x.org issue :-(
Note that this has been hacked manually to make it work with the Alps touchpad! Mit Veränderungen für Alps touchpad.
Didn't it work with selecting "ALPS" "Touchpad" as mouse type in sax2? (or did you just not expect the setting to be in there :-) -- Stefan Seyfried
