suspend to disk hanging
Hi I've got a Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop and have been using suspend to disk successfully for quite a while. Recently I installed Apache and mysql. Since then suspend to disk sometimes hangs and I *think* it might be only when the mysql daemon is enabled. I've set POWERSAVE_DEBUG to 15 to try and debug. Of course I can't get it to hang now with repeated attempts at suspending. I'm looking for advice on how to debug this. Is there some way that the mysql daemon would prevent suspend to disk from working? Meanwhile, I'll wait until the computer hangs like it normally does on suspend with the mysql daemon running. I've actually got a log with this scenario with POWERSAVE_DEBUG set to 3, which is shown below... Jul 1 07:41:34 jaguar hal.hotplug[19271]: DEVPATH is not set Jul 1 07:41:35 jaguar syslog-ng[3899]: STATS: dropped 0 Jul 1 07:41:37 jaguar kernel: uhci_hcd 0000:00:1f.2: remove, state 1 Jul 1 07:41:37 jaguar kernel: usb usb1: USB disconnect, address 1 Jul 1 07:41:37 jaguar kernel: uhci_hcd 0000:00:1f.2: USB bus 1 deregistered Jul 1 07:41:37 jaguar hald[6671]: Timed out waiting for hotplug event 1168. Rebasing to 1170 Jul 1 07:41:38 jaguar kernel: PM: suspend-to-disk mode set to 'platform' The time out message above does not usually appear on a successful suspend. Earlier when I suspended, it seemed to be going well and I closed the lid and when I looked at the computer again an hour later the computer did not respond to anything but the power light was still on. Looking at the logs seemed to indicate that the lid event was received after the power down had started. I've attached the log (with speed step changes and battery reading messages removed) for those who understand it better, but it seems that it started the screen saver after the suspend to disk had finished!!! I've got kpowersave settings set to 'Only blank the screen' and 'Lock screen on lid close' with 'Lock screen with' 'Select automatically'. I've deselected 'Lock screen on lid close' now, so that this shouldn't happen again. However, perhaps this is a bug which needs looking at. I've got a Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop and have been using suspend to disk successfully for quite a while. Recently I installed Apache and mysql. Since then suspend to disk sometimes hangs and I *think* it might be only when the mysql daemon is enabled.
Right, MySQL doesn't work with Suspend to Disk or Ram. Take a look at /etc/sysconfig/powersave/sleep and add mysql to POWERSAVE_SUSPEND2DISK_RESTART_SERVICES, POWERSAVE_SUSPEND2RAM_RESTART_SERVICES and POWERSAVE_STANDBY_RESTART_SERVICES, restart powersaved and you shouldn't have any problems now. -- Machs gut | http://www.iivs.de/schwinde/buerger/tremmel/ | http://packman.links2linux.de/ Manfred | http://www.knightsoft-net.de
