Hi, I have an Acer Aspire 3020 with SL 9.3 Pro and KDE 3.5.0 and just cannot configure a workaround for the power management. The core problem is the battery status which remains "-1%" all the time and there are no warnings before the battery is empty (causing the laptop to die...). If I try to configure the kpowersave with Kontrolcenter, it claims the ACPI being only partially installed and suggests me to recompimle the kernel. But the kernel ACPI support is enabled (using modules). If I configure with YaST's power management, the battery status is shown for a moment in the task bar when I click "Apply", but as soon as YaST has finished its tasks, the status "-1%" reapperars. How could I configure my system in order to get a working power management?? I wish You all a happy new year 2006!! Kimmo

It seems to me that the powersave daemon is not running, thus kpowersave shows a battery charge value of -1%. Can you please post the output of 'powersave -b' and 'powersave -d' to check whether the powersave daemon is running? The output of 'cat /proc/acpi/battery/*/*' may also be helpful. Something in /var/log/messages regarding the powersave daemon?

ACER is famous for shipping DSDTs without ACPI CM-battery support. Try if you can get a BIOS update or complain to ACER. If this does not help, writing a "smart battery" driver would be highly appreciated ;-) To verify if this is really the case, please post the contents of /proc/acpi/battery/*/* -- Stefan Seyfried
