Hello, editing the monthly digest of the TuxMobil News http://tuxmobil.org/newsfeed.html I noticed that May 2003 brought us noteworthy applications and news for mobile Linux geeks. Here is an extract of the monthly digest: - laptopkernel containing all the patches required to run recent laptops was initially released. Please support this project. http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/laptopkernel/ - TheftGuard made by the BIOS manufacturer Phoenix is a theft deterrent application not depending on a certain operating system, which cannot be removed by replacing the harddisk http://www.phoenix.com/en/about+phoenix/investors/news+releases/2003/may+27,... For more remedies to protect Linux laptops and PDAs see http://tuxmobil.org/stolen_laptops.html - The HP Linux laptop sold in Thailand got many attention. But as CNETASIA reports analysts say this notebook will be a unique case http://asia.cnet.com/newstech/industry/0,39001143,39132980,00.htm For other rumors about Linux laptop, PDA and accessory support by manufacturers see http://tuxmobil.org/laptop_manufacturer.html - The first available Centrino laptops were soon be equipped with a free operating system by some Linux geeks. There are links to many installation reports and useful patches at http://tuxmobil.org/centrino.html - TuxMobil - Linux on Mobile Computers was former known as MobiliX. Because of a severe trademark charge the name had to be changed to TuxMobil. But this is not yet the end of the story, a detailed request to permit an appeal to the highest German civil court was done at May 27th http://tuxmobil.org/mobilix_asterix.html At the 4th Libre Softwaremeeting in Metz (France) July 2003, I will give a talk about the case. http://www.libresoftwaremeeting.org Werner -- |=| Werner Heuser = Keplerstr. 11A = D-10589 Berlin = Germany |=| <wehe at tuxmobil.org> T. 0049 - (0)30 - 349 53 86 |=| http://TuxMobil.org UniX on Mobile Systems: HOWTOs,Software |*| This is no time for phony rhetoric -- Lou Reed
Greetings, (responding in German is fine!) I've installed SuSE 8.2 on my Toshiba Tecra 9000 laptop and I'm trying to get WiFi to work. The wireless card is a Lucent/Orinoco based mini-PCI interface which worked perfectly using the orinoco_cs driver in RedHat 9 and Mandrake 9 (and of course) Windows XP. The interface is configured as eth1 with the orinoco_cs module (the "alias eth1 orinoco_cs in /etc/modules.conf is there). Here are the problem symptoms: - During boot, eth1 reports as "failed" - KWiFi Manager shows my machine has contact with the access point, the signal strength is excellent, the ESS ID is correct but Local IP is missing. - iwconfig shows the same information. - Trying to ping something results in "Network is unavailable" message. If I then go into the Control Center and open up the configuration tool for the network cards, it shows that the wireless card is in ad hoc mode. It should be set to "Auto". Now, if I change the setting to "Auto" and hit "Finish" something interesting happens: For a brief instant, after SuSEconfig has completed, KWiFi Manager shows a local IP address and then the connection disappears and everything goes blank. Rebooting will restore the WLAN connection to the same state as before, and it will have returned to ad hoc mode. I've tried all the different drivers which should work with this card - same problem. This has to be something SuSE specific because it worked with other distributions. I have 2 DHCP servers on the LAN and both are working fine. Any help appreciated! thanks, ------------------------------------------------------- Per-Olof Litby Phone: +46 8 631-1463 Regional Mgr - Nordic/Baltic Fax: +46 8 631-1005 Java Web Services Email: politby@sun.com Sun Microsystems ------------------------------------------------------- Calendar URL below (Sun only) http://namefinder.germany/nfcal.cgi?-s+23213 ------------------------------------------------------- I've got this great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom. -------------------------------------------------------
Hallo! Danke schon mal! Gruß, Danny

Schau dir mal "xautolock" an. http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/X11/screensavers/ -- It might look like I'm doing nothing, but at the cellular level I'm really quite busy. "GPG-KEY on demand"
