I'd rather use "iwconfig" to see if the device is up and running.
Vigor14:~ # iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. sit0 no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. The w-lan-device doesn't run. There is a switch in the keyboard for the w-lan and in windows I can switch it on and off. But running linux, the switch has no effekt. The reaction after lapci and iwconfig is always the same.
