Proposal to remove ftp.linux.org.tr from mirrors list
Hello. ftp.linux.org.tr apperantly soft limits downloads to 2 megabyte/sec which is completely unacceptable in today's standards. There is absolutely no explanation for this from their side too (I am Turkish, can read Turkish lang). You can easily see yourselves: wget -vvv https://ftp.linux.org.tr/opensuse/tumbleweed/iso/openSUSE-Tumbleweed-DVD-x86... They also block ICMP ping replies, is it even allowed? I believe (based on my experience and ping measurements) Bulgaria which is just west of Turkey will serve as a better mirror for Turkey. For example, these numbers are impressive considering I am on a VDSL2 line ping -c5 opensuse.ipacct.com PING opensuse.ipacct.com (195.85.215.172) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from opensuse.ipacct.com (195.85.215.172): icmp_seq=1 ttl=53 time=62.3 ms 64 bytes from opensuse.ipacct.com (195.85.215.172): icmp_seq=2 ttl=53 time=64.1 ms 64 bytes from opensuse.ipacct.com (195.85.215.172): icmp_seq=3 ttl=53 time=70.7 ms 64 bytes from opensuse.ipacct.com (195.85.215.172): icmp_seq=5 ttl=53 time=62.6 ms Sorry if I sounded a bit frustrated, it is almost 06 AM here and I am struggling catch up with the packages for 3 hours. Have fun Ilgaz Öcal .tr

That mirror is actually listed as "CountryOnly" so it should only serve clients in Turkey. I guess you are in Turkey? From Switzerland, I also see just less than 2Mb/sec.

Not a problem, you sound quite fine :-) I agree 2Mb/sec is not really sufficient these days, but the mirror is being run by a local users group and it is our only mirror in Turkey. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (10.0°C) Member, openSUSE Heroes.

I have written to the admin to ask about bandwidth.
Their mail server was down for 2 years and for unknown reasons the interest in linux.org.tr was vanished 1-2 years ago. I am contacting Linux friendly/linux hosting (e.g. Ubuntu mirrors) in Turkey politely to mirror openSUSE since it will increase their visibility in Science&Financial institutions. I can't get exact information since "eksisozluk.com" famous everything2 like site is full of flames, these are the information I could extract from dozens of messages.

My first mail did bounce, the 2nd one did not.

That's great! Maybe also try universities ? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (15.3°C)
Hi, what about http://ftp.linux.org.tr/opensuse/ ? Regarding to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+mirror/ftp.linux.org.tr-archive it has 10 gbps. Greetings, Christian Am 20. April 2022 10:35:11 MESZ schrieb Per Jessen <per@opensuse.org>:

They may have 1 TBps, doesn't change that they limit the downloads to 2 MB/per IP. They don't seem to respond to mails either. I tried a hosting company who already hosts Ubuntu (a _very_ fast one) and METU.edu.tr which even hosted/upstreamed the entire country Internet one time. Even they didn't respond yet. I wonder if someone could port the Manjaro's "ping every mirror around and auto select the fastest ones" script for issues like mine. I mean, if I was in Sweden or Germany, I wouldn't be even aware of "mirrors" thing. Have a nice day Ilgaz Öcal

Sorry, my fault... Maybe you can try asking https://mirror.verinomi.com/ They already mirror some distros and I reached 200 Mbps (from Germany). Am 21. April 2022 11:17:47 MESZ schrieb "Ilgaz Öcal" <ilgaz@fastmail.fm>:
