d.o.o slow downloads, curl errors
Hello everyone! Are there any issues with download.opensuse.org? Besides being quite slow I am getting the following error (multiple times with different packages and repositories such as TW oss, hw): - Download (curl) error for 'https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/ hardware/openSUSE_Tumbleweed/x86_64/bolt-0.9.5-22.7.x86_64.rpm': Error code: Curl error 92 Error message: HTTP/2 stream 0 was not closed cleanly: PROTOCOL_ERROR (err 1) Will try again... Sometimes it gives up ("Giving up after 3 attempts."). Greetings, -- Javier Llorente
Hi, Yes, there was a full rebuild of TW yesterday. openSUSE servers are under high load due to user updates and mirror synchronizations. Things should get back to normal soon. Best, Alex March 23, 2023 1:11 PM, "Javier Llorente" <javier@opensuse.org> wrote:

Shouldn't I be redirected to another mirror? I have tested GWDG and TU-Chemnitz and I get very good speeds with both of them. Greetings, -- Javier Llorente

The mirror redirection is not based on performance as such - it is based on proximity of client to mirror. It is assumed that closer geographical proximity means better performance. One problem - for you specifically - is a complete lack of mirrors in Spain. What is weird though is - for your country, mirrorcache doesn't even think there are any mirrors on the same continent, so it lists mirrors around the world. (including many in Europe). I'm going to open a ticket on that. Then I've won the lottery. The mirror chosen for me it even times out ;(

I remember that at some point there was one in Portugal. But not anymore.

It's interesting. If I append COUNTRY=ES, I get" Mirrors in other countries, but same continent: None". But if I remove it, I get all the European mirrors. Tested with https://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/iso/openSUSE-Tumbleweed-KDE-Live-x8... Greetings, -- Javier Llorente

Seems to be a bug maybe, because if you add REGION=eu as well, it works. https://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/iso/openSUSE-Tumbleweed-KDE-Live-x86_64-Snapshot20230319-Media.iso.mirrorlist?COUNTRY=es®ION=eu Might be worth opening an issue with some URLs you tested, screenshots, and what you think MirrorCache should have behaved :) https://github.com/openSUSE/MirrorCache/issues/new - Eli

Yes, if you get some Chinese or Russian mirrors, that could easily be the case.

Yes, I think I remember one in Portugal too.

In a way that is good, then it is just the COUNTRY=xx mechanism that is broken :-) I tried it with other countries too - it finds national mirrors, but never any on the same continent. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (16.5°C)

We solved some serious performance issues around 18:00 UTC yesterday. The mysqld process did not have enough CPU power, so everything else was stuck waiting for it. Ciao Bernhard M.
