Instead of saying how cool SUSE Studio is, I always say "ain't it awesome to create your own OS with all software you want all from the comfort of a web browser for the cost of exactly zero dollars and cents" + demo. I will be speaking to some Computing major students in a local college in 2 weeks' time on the benefits of going and using FOSS. Naturally I will be using the openSUSE ecosystem as an example. Since these guys are using almost 100% MS products fro development, I am thinking perhaps I can interest them on OBS or how to get started to contrbute to openSUSE. Are there slides or more info I can get on OBS or how to contribute code to the project? I am not a developer but more of a user/sysadmin type. So there is much I don't understand about OBS internals or code contribution. Eric On Thu, Jan 27, 2011 at 3:04 AM, Kostas Koudaras <warlordfff@gmail.com> wrote:

(belatedly...) +1 for Studio. Omg that thing is so much fun, do your own logo, add a post install script to do whatever you want.... even do a test run right there. If I can use it, anyone can. Funnest toy ever. Now I know people like big shiny things, but really it's the small stuff that I really like - that Suspend actually works and the default network manager connects every time. Simple stuff I know but hey, I like it when my machine works. I have Gnome desktop, LXDE laptop. With a bit of coaxing even ATI driver works. Similarly cool for me but simple - setting things up how I want. Someone asked was my desktop Ubuntu cos the toolbar is at the top. Nope, I just put it there. Want quick access to my fave apps? Just add it to the toolbar. All the desktop behaviours are so configurable. Want to play with the latest version of a package? No problemo, grab it from Factory. Want to try someone's new project? I can find it in Gallery or OBS. Also cool - it's still a community project, not a top-down bureaucratic organization. I can actually have real input. I can put an idea on open fate and people go 'oh yeah good idea. Here's a possible solution....' So, longwinded...but that's my thoughts for the morning.... Yup. Thanks all for the input, I took away quite a bit from that :D I have put it on http://ietherpad.com/caMiz2FAEc Helen is helping me to create a 1-A4 page out of it, showing off the coolness of openSUSE in a few short soundbites. I intend each of these things to be unique to openSUSE and cool enough to get a geek excited. So it's not for endusers and it's not meant to let someone have all info there at once - but just a teaser to make them talk to us at a conference. If it works out we can polish it and use it for the future :D Again thanks all!
