[opensuse-marketing] having fun... ???
Heya all, I'm looking for a fun slogan or picture - something that makes people laugh. Like a t-shirt saying "ROCK IS DEAD (and paper killed it)" or one of the better xkcd comics ;-) Something for a sticker, poster or a t-shirt... Any ideas? /jos
Hi Jos, Is there a particular theme you would like to see there? I mean - what is it for? and how suse related is it? Best Regards, Eugene Trounev [it-s] On Tue, Jan 31, 2012 at 11:46 AM, Jos Poortvliet <jos@opensuse.org> wrote:

Hmmm. So it should indeed be something openSUSE, but it doesn't have to have a super clear geeko relation - something general FOSS or even just 'IT' would be fine, if we can reasonably put a geeko below it and print it on a sticker or shirt :D I'm not promising anything but I've been thinking we need more FUN t-shirts... But I'm, while crazy, not particularly funny so I have a hard time coming up with something :D /Jos

Hm, still depends on what you define as "fun". What about using some quotes of Linus Torvalds, RMS or other famous FLOSS developers? BTW, another topic I guess, but what about a memorial t-shirt for Dennis Ritchie? If Ritchie wouldn't have been, we all would use anything but Linux... hope this helps, --kdl

Those are GOOD. We can probably adapt some to be a bit more useable - like "We turn Caffeine into Code" - openSUSE "We'd even improve the World - if only we had the source" - openSUSE Or without geometry, life is pointless... Stuff like that. Any more ideas? /Jos

I love the fact that we have our own beer label and I talk about it often to others. (Bragging rights and all.) But, there's a limited reach since we don't currently have funds to purchase/ship the beer globally to events, and in some countries, especially US, we really can't distribute beer at events without jumping through legal hurdles. It might however be still a good idea to have such a phrase, but targeted regionally. openSUSE beer is becoming well known in EU so thus creating shirts or stickers for EU region would be effective. Hi, I think these old jokes are too old, too often heared. And it shouldn't be too geeky. something I tried: "Social networks? Be a part of a word wide community." "save coffee, take Linux." "Thanks, I'm free now." Marcel 2012/2/6 Jos Poortvliet <jos@opensuse.org>:

Yes, they are a tad old... It would be better to have something fresh. But Geeky is absolutely OK imho. I also like "Without geometry, life is pointless" quite a bit, not sure how to add a geeko to that one however. "Got the point. (geeko)", maybe, on the back or so. Not that it makes any sense :( And what about "No place like 127.0.0.1 + geeko" door mats for openSUSE? ;-)

Well, a chameleon, or a ge(e)(c)ko is an extremly flexible animal. If the licenses allows it, I'd suggest to modify the openSUSE logo and create different versions of it, one with a party hat, one with, maybe glasses, one with... what ever comes to your mind. Then, you add a link to SUSE Studio to the shirt and add some lines like: "We take our logos serious" "It's not just the gecko, who's that flexible" "We got it all" People wonder and think about it, visit susestudio.com, visit opensuse.org and maybe use openSUSE _and_ maybe donate money to our foundation in future. -- Kim Leyendecker, openSUSE Wiki Team GPG Key: 664265369547B825 | leyendecker@opensuse.org http://www.opensuse.org - Linux for open minds -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+owner@opensuse.org

Hmmm, I actually think its fine. The relationship to openSUSE doesn't have to be 100% obvious I'd say. Maybe someone can come up with a funny picture or design around the "without geometry, life is pointless" - be sure to write the i's without dot ;-) openSUSE doesn't have to be prominent as it only makes sense for a Geeko (if at all) anyway. Then there is the "I commit to openSUSE" which I think is a nice pun on the two meanings of commit. I think that's a fine t-shirt too and the design is OK, just a bit too busy. I'd remove the logo, write 'openSUSE' in the same font as the rest - and be done with it :D The back of both t-shirts could be the same - the lizzard tail. Then, I'd say we need at least a third... anyone any more suggestions? I do like the idea by Kim of doing some funny geeko pictures and some slogans... But it needs some artwork-creativity by somebody.
