Offer of help is always very much welcomed. ;-) However, what kind of translation are you mostly interested in ? Localizing the distribution or translating Wiki pages, or, translating Weekly News ? This is just an off-topic: I realized you've written "Castellano" as Spanish in "OpenSUSE Weekly News/93/Translations" page. http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Weekly_News/93/Translations I googled and learned. If I understand correctly, there are several languages in Spain and people who live in Spain call the most commonly spoken language "Castellano", right ? As you know, Spanish is spoken not only in Spain, but also in many countries in Latin America. The question is: which is better, "Castellano" or "Español" for those who speak Spanish world wide ? If the answer is "Castellano", do you think we had better replace "Español" with "Castellano" on the Wiki pages ? For example: Inter wiki link (Pull down language selector on top-right of each Wiki page) and entry in "Translations" section in Weekly News ... Yeah, he used the word Castellano, Castellano & Español are technically the same, but there should be used Español and not Castellano, because Español is the common languaje name, Castellano is mostly used in Spain, but not much in America, also the languaje traslation is always in a similar way to Español, Spanish, espanhol, espagnol, Spanisch, Spaans, spagnolo, so to be more "international" and not "region" specific we should use Español. We mostly use castellano in Spain and this term is widely used in Latin American as well, whereas the term español is more popular in the US and Central America.
The question is: which is better, "Castellano" or "Español" for those who speak Spanish world wide ?
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_given_to_the_Spanish_language#Usage_and_i...

If you check some mailing lists like opensuse-es, opensuse-translation-es or kde-l10n-es, the wiki, etc., you will see that some people use castellano and others use español.
For example: Inter wiki link (Pull down language selector on top-right of each Wiki page) and entry in "Translations" section in Weekly News ...

Hi all, I believe we should use the word "Español", since most of linux distributions use "Spanish" as word for setting Keyboard layout, System language, etc. I understand it might stand for either "Español" or "Castellano", but there are differrences in theory and not sure in practice how it goes. In the end, either word is alright to me :) Best regards -- Ricardo Varas Santana openSUSE Member http://ricardovs.wordpress.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org
