Hello, I think it's time to begin designing the DVD cover for 11.4. Got any suggestions? Add them here :-) It should have some celadon green + some stripes. Cheers, -- Javier Llorente

Cheers,
Didn't the openSLX guys doing it, or this time there's more collaboration on that subject ? If it's green and didn't have stripes (which doesn't print well) I'm in favor of :-) -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Ambassador GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

No, openSLX should not be "handling" it on their own. They should be checking in with us first. They did it on their own for 11.3 and their design was massively against our branding. There was a big uproar about that. For now, we need to discuss and agree on the design and then include openSLX in that design discussion ASAP. openSLX may be the ones that are creating the DVD boxes, but they're also printing the DVD Promos and those Promos are what we the marketing and ambassador teams use to reach out to the community. The cover design has to reflect our desires appropriately. I personaly look forward to seeing what the community can come up with but I wonder given that we are a month away from release and that Stephan told me the designs would be ready two to three weeks before launch only gives the community a week to produce a design they are happy with is that enough time? Two problems with that statement: 1. They completely circumvented the community on the 11.3 design and that caused an uproar. They agreed after to work with the marketing and artwork teams on this. I reached out directly to them, as a board member, a month ago to remind them of this promise. And they have yet to do anything. And now, from you, I hear for the first time that they are going ahead with whatever design they have with no time frame for us to work on this. This is a slap in the face of community work. And quite typical of openslx's tendency to hijack portions of the community. Just look what they did to German OWN today! 2. The question is not whether we come up with a design they're happy with. Its whether they come up with a design WE'Re happy with. We're the ones that are going to go around all over the world delivering Promo DVDs. That Promo DVD is our calling card. And to shove a design into our hands without any discussion and we have no choice or collaboration in the matter is not acceptable. Javier's attempts to bring this up for discussion is not about us getting to the game late. Its about picking up where openSLX should have a month ago. Bryen

I think it should have a Lizard rocking or something like that or even surfing a wave or(why not?) have four lizards do similar things and in front of all that the number 11( 11+ 4 lizards having fun)so that we show people that we have fun with openSUSE and we ride the wave of change , bring symbolism to the cover and give the ambassadors a reason to mention the cover in their presentations, I think that something like that would be another innovating thing we can do. That is some of my thoughts and my suggestions if you like it I could make a bigger expand of it... Kostas 2011/2/9 Bryen M. Yunashko <suserocks@bryen.com>:

1. Agreed.
Last time the design of the Promo DVDs was taken just out of the lack of another proper proposal. If we as a project can come up with something fitting in our artwork strategy for 11.4 there is no reason to discuss that. I am sure open-slx is deeply enough in the community that they're seeing whats going on and do their box design for the commercial one accordingly along with the commuinty design or discuss. If not, its their decision. The production of the commercial- and promo-DVDs is not coupled. Jacqueline is currently working on detailed requirements for the DVD cover. regards, Klaas -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

OK, this is my first post on the list and I don't know the artwork strategy, but I would like to have the old "mathematical shapes" back or how you want to call them. They made a real difference back then and they still would serve that purpose today too. This is an idea about the way the thing looks finally and should thus go to @artwork I think. But apart from that, I like the idea. However, I wouldn't try to push it for 11.4, but save this idea up for the next version where this move could really make a nice difference. Especially as I heared artworkers already whispering about other interesting ideas for the next version...

Then Jacqueline needs to be in on this discussion too. Can you, or someone in the office ask her to join this discussion or at the very least someone to facilitate the information she is working on and what we are doing? I've got no problem with Jacqueline doing what she's doing. Just that what she's doing needs to be in an open transparent process where the rest of the community is Thanks, Bryen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

Certainly that is something we need to tap into more. But as Stuart pointed out, we are under some rather severe time constraings here with just a month to go before 11.4 release. We need to figure out a plan of action to move fast here. Okay, let's not be focusing on "its too late" or how the box looks. I have clarified the information from both Klass and Henne.... the 11.4 Promo DVD *will* be designed by us and then we will send out to whomever we select to press the DVDs. The official box that openSLX designs is their own business. If they have their deadlines, that's their issue. We confused the two up to now because last time they did both designs for the promo and for the box. Therefore, if you have comments about their box... direct it to openSLX, not here. But if you have comments about the Promo DVD cover, direct it here. So again, forget about timing deadlines and dealing with openSLX. Focus only on the promo DVD cover that we hand out at events. Let's get busy on this and start focusing on design requirements we can hand over to the artwork team so they can move ahead on this. Thanks! Thank you for clarifying what is the target market for open-slx. In that case maybe is completely right and the proper front page for that box. In other hand that is their business and nothing we have to make there. I was thinking in terms openSUSE community worldwide for oS 11.4 DVD cover. I understand we have to think fast and precise without too much hassle to build it because we are only 27 days far for the release. Despite I really loved the oS 11.2 theme we should stick with Celadon theme for practical reasons. And I know more colors are more costs. But thinking loud maybe it's possible to add four Veiled Chamaleans tail tied as symbolic links. Each Chamalean with one color accented over the green color base Chamalean as a desktop color representative. It just an idea to play with. But in europe there are people from diverse backgrounds. For example my target market comes from Pakistan, India, China and Africa. The same also applies to other european countries. Do you really believe the whole of western europe is populated by Caucasian people? if we want to market openSUSE we need to reflect all of its users. Its translated into many languages. So why not reflect this with the box cover? jdd Is this the final box layout? It looks really like 11.3. The 11.3 box is standing on my desk next to the computer. I think that I buy the 11.4 box too. It wouldn´t be so good that they look like the same.....
and, as Jean-Daniel pointed out before, it doesn´t looks like the 11.4 artwork. Okay, I think there's been some good discussions so far on this but we need to be a bit more focused on what our requirements are for the cover. The artwork team will then look at the list of requirements and then incorporate it into their artistic work. I can't find where our past DVD cover artwork is stored on the wiki. Do we have this for reference? I very much enjoyed the 11.2 artwork. I think putting social media links on the cover is good. I'd like to see screenshots of some of our cooler stuff We should think now about what text we want to include on the cover/back page. I'd like to make sure we have better contrast for text compared to what we had in 11.3 which is white text against light green background, which doesn't help for many people, especially when the text is small. So, how about we discuss now what text we want to include in the coverwork. This will help the artwork team determine what w tlook like.
