[opensuse-marketing] Yearly slogan or catch-phrase for openSUSE community
Hi listmates ! We have a very good motto "Have a lot of fun !" for the project & community and of course I like it very much. However, I came up with an idea: "Why don't we have another *yearly* slogan or catch-phrase for openSUSE community ?" I'm one of the supporters of Urawa Red Diamonds, which is a famous football(soccer) club in Japan. The club has a yearly slogan every year, for example: "Go foward, Hands in Hands !" <- last year "Devotion to Urawa" <- this year If we replace Urawa with openSUSE - "Devotion to openSUSE" - don't you think that can be a slogan for us, people who love and contribute to openSUSE ? So, I want offer my draft. - Every year-end, we make a contest for the next year's openSUSE community catch-phrase. - Phase 1: Subscription - first half of December Community members can nominate their candidate for the next year's catch-phrase. - Phase 2: Election - second half of December Community members can vote for their most favorite catch-phrase from among candidates. - Phase 3: Result presentation and award - End of the year Election winner will be announced and the auther will be given an award. - The yearly catch-phrase can be used by any community members for community activities, for example, posters, banners, T-shirts, stickers, etc. I think this contest would be very easy to participate for every community members and therefore be fairly useful to unify all community members. The procedure is similar in the one for YaST mascot contest we had last year, but we need an election system for this contest and I don't have a good idea for that. However, I hope some of you are interested in this idea and offer solutions for it. Well, Piotrek has sent the e-mail below directly to me as usual. ;-) I think the message is addressed not only to me, but also to the list. Piotrek Juzwiak wrote:

I propose to open a new thread with proposals for a catch-phrase. Then take out 10 best (some group should decide favourites) and then start a poll and encourage everyone to vote for the favourite catch-phrase.
Best Regards
Thank you for your comment, Piotrek. Since it's very easy for everyone to participate the contest and there might be a lot of candidates, voting after the first qualifying round may be a good idea. But in that case, who should be the jury at the first qualifying round ? Board ? Or should we organize the jury for that ? Best,
I propose to make You the main Judge (you have two points for every vote :) ) and the rest is made of the weekly news team :) That should be bloody fair i think :) This time i sent message to proper address:) I'm sorry Satoru, i forget sometimes myself to reply not only to You but to the opensuse-marketing team. I'll be good from now on. Best Regards -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

One of the things we've had historically is a "theme" for each release. What we've been talking about with this release is a "theme" around collaboration, so perhaps the "slogan" should fit with that? Instead of yearly, "for each release" may be alternative. But what's in my mind now is that process of deciding "theme" or "slogan" should be as open as possible so that any member[1] who would like to participate can participate. [1] Not only *registered* "Members" http://en.opensuse.org/Members but also "person, who think (s)he is a member, want to be a member, ask if (s)he is a member" as described in http://en.opensuse.org/Community IMHO, the most important thing is that *everyone* has right and chance to make openSUSE better if they wish and contribute, and letting members know about that continuously is one of our - I mean, marketing team's - tasks. That's why I made this proposal. No argument. However, this might be something to announce / work on right after we finally get the roadmap in place for 11.2? Hi all, I think deciding on weather doing a yearly or "for each release" slogan depends on how the roadmap's goals and features are set. At this time I tend to believe the "for each release" option is a better alternative. But also a slogan for the "whole release" (the series as one, for example 11, 11.1, 11.2= "11") would be good if it fits. One thing that I hope is, the slogan would describe the concept for community or collaboration. If the slogan is too much associate with release, there is concern that it would tend to be focused on development policies or concepts, not on community or collaboration, for example: "Features for Future", "Stable, and Flexible as well"... I don't go against having such development policies or concepts, though. ;-) -- _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ _/_/ Satoru Matsumoto - openSUSE Member - Japan _/_/ _/_/ Marketing & Weekly News Team _/_/ _/_/ mail: helios_reds@gmx.net / irc: HeliosReds _/_/ _/_/ http://blog.geeko.jp/author/heliosreds _/_/ _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org
