[opensuse-marketing] Final proposal and Summary of two controversial posts
Hallo all, It's time for me to put up a summary of my two controversial series of posts and give some final proposals to openSUSE community. 1) Calling Ambassadors: DVD requests (Started by Zonker) [1] I dont think any one would find any offence with my first post [2]. It was indeed a good proposal as far as I understand. Now comes my second post [3] Problem starts [4]. I now agree with this and I believe I should not have made the hurry. I just thought creation of such page would help me to express my logic in a more clear way. My problem was with [5]. And My next post[6] clarifies that. Jigish supported my view. The matter was clean until then Suddenly S. Kemter replied with some unnecessary harsh approach. (The post has been deleted from archive) I replied with [7] and Zonker replied next [8] The wiki page was cleaned up by me and now it was for people who want to help people nearby as offline mirror, to list themselves along with their contact details. As I thought it would be better if I make this page more visible by putting it on [9] (If you call it my another hurried decision, I will agree that it was my another mistake to not to decide after discussion with community. At that time I thought this will benefit the openSUSE community, then why not do it right now. A mistake I know.) Now what S. Kemter did next was both right and severely wrong. He removed the link from front page (Which was right). But he did not stop there and proceeded to mark the Free Media Persons page as "Nonsense"[10] (This was wrong and I was already irritated with his previous mail). The page was no more unclear and it clearly said that it was for people who want to share DVD medias [FMP page]. It was all the way wrong. As Zonker asked not to fight in public, I thought it was best to let Zonker know this through private mail and I did it that way. I never uttered a single word about this on the list until Eric pointed out the fact [11] and S.Kemter proudly announced that he did it on the list and pointed Eric to something totally different from the page's goal (the page was about voluntary sharing and he pointed to the page on how to get a DVD from openSUSE)[12]. I had to answer [13] and I am sorry for my use of words. At the same time I started a thread on GNU/Linux and Free Software Philosophy. Some people started confusing the two and attacked me on this thread too [14]. Things got messed up after that. == Proposal == The idea was good and many people liked it. So I again cleaned it up more and now I dont think anyone should have any problem against it [FMP page] any more. If that is so, it would be better if the "To be deleted" mark is removed and a link to this can be provided on main page. I leave it to the community now. 2) GNU/Linux : Started by me [15] Against (7) : Marquis, Sascha, Chuck Payne, S.Kemter, Gabriel Stein, Rajko M., Kevin For (6) : ADM, Alex239, Jean Christophe Baptiste, Martin (front page), Jigish (Front Page) Rajko M. (Personal Choice) Unproductive/No universally accepted solution (5) : Manchette, Zonker, Alex239, Bryen, Kevin So it shows there are followers of GNU/Linux naming convention in community. Should not they be heard? Even if we discard people who are in more than 1 group, the list becomes Against : 5 For : 4 Unproductive/No universally accepted solution : 3 The ratio difference is closer. == Proposal == Just change the main protected pages in the wiki to GNU/Linux to show openSUSE's official support to Free Sotware Movement. The usage in rest of the pages will be based on personal choice. Looking for reply from Zonker and Brien on this issue. --- ADM [1] http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-marketing/2009-06/msg00088.html [2] http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-marketing/2009-06/msg00096.html [3] http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-marketing/2009-06/msg00097.html [4] http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-marketing/2009-06/msg00098.html [5] http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-marketing/2009-06/msg00099.html [6] http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-marketing/2009-06/msg00100.html [7] http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-marketing/2009-06/msg00104.html [8] http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-marketing/2009-06/msg00105.html [9] http://en.opensuse.org/How_to_Participate#Spread_it [10] http://en.opensuse.org/index.php?title=OpenSUSE_Free_Media_Persons&action=history [FMP page] http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Free_Media_Persons [11] http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-marketing/2009-06/msg00150.html [12] http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-marketing/2009-06/msg00198.html [13] http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-marketing/2009-06/msg00214.html [14] http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-marketing/2009-06/msg00215.html [15] http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-marketing/2009-06/msg00108.html -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org
