Am willing to spend some time doing whatever in between the time I'm doing whatever at the conference. You can get a idea of my OpenSuSE background, my username in the OpenSuSE Forums is tsu2. Also, any other unpublished SuSE get-togethers? Tony -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

Great news to hear from you. We would love to have you come out and join us at SCALE. We have some exciting things going on that week in Los Angeles. First of all, we will be hosting an openSUSE Marketing Team hackfest from Monday, Feb 21-Thursday, Feb 24. Then on Friday, Feb 25-27 we will be working at SCALE in the booth. We're bringing in lots of people from all over the world to work together during the hackfest. Up to 12 people from as far as Australia, Europe, Brazil and the United States. The hackfest will be held at the Travelodge, two blocks away from the SCALE hilton hotel. You are more than welcome to join us. Tell us a bit about yourself. What is your experience with openSUSE? Where do you live? (I'm guessing Southern California?) We're hoping to use SCALE event to push to get more people in Southern California who use openSUSE into our community and actively promote openSUSE Project to the masses. Thumbnail about me: Have been an MCSE since 1997. Been using OpenSuSE off and on (mostly on) for about 3 yrs now starting with 11.0. Selected OpenSuSE as my preference from the beginning due to its better efforts in Microsoft Networking interoperability and AD integration. Created a noteworthy GroundworksOpensource/Nagios/OpenSuSE VMware appliance first in 1997(Updated twice after that) which I gave to the "community" through Bittorrent distribution which included extensive support for monitoring Microsoft servers beyond what was available elsewhere. Have been active in the OpenSuSE Technical Help forums, anyone interested can view my posts (username tsu2). Have used VMware virtualization extensively for many years, am fairly fluent. Also have some experience with Amazon, Google and Azure clouds with some insight into other clouds like Eucalyptus, Rackspace. Also have extensive experience managing Software Development projects, primarily focused on using mobile devices (like PDAs, Smartphones) in Healthcare. I've given many talks in my region on Password Security, general networking security. Have specialized in supporting Microsoft Small Business Server which indirectly also means that I have fairly good knowledge about supporting most popular Microsoft Server products. So, as you can see my experience spans much more than just OpenSuSE, with broad experience in other products besides OpenSuSE on both the Systems (Admin and Architecture) and Development sides. I 'm a big fan of OpenSuSE for all the things it does for me, because many of the things I do tend to be out of the ordinary, I am willing to tolerate a little bit of instability at times to have a chance at doing things that haven't been done before. Am interested in a little more detail on those Hackfest days leading up to SCALE, would possibly make time for those also. Are there at least proposed ideas or a wishlist? Am interested in whatever needs to be done, even setting up a booth :)
From San Diego, Tony

Awesome intro. Looking forward to meeting you - frankly I know very little of the server side so I'd love to drink a beer with you and hear some more about that area.

We have some ideas. There will be quite some 'strategic' discussions - mostly practical planning actually. And quite some writing, I expect, on things like our 11.4 feature guide, flyers, things like that. And other work on marketing materials like our arguments - which you already participated in, thanks for that! Concerning the booth, help will surely be appreciated I'd say :D
From San Diego,
San Diego! Awesome, been there last Januari :D Nice weather except when I am there, we had rain and lots of it... LOL \> Tony

San Diego! Hmm... You know... I have a feeling you would make for a great organizer for the 11.4 Launch Party in San Diego around March 10. I'll be in San Diego during that week and possibly one other person on our team might be in the area that week too. We should think about planning to host a Launch Party. What do you say? Sure I'm pulling you right into the thick of things... but I suspect you wouldn't have it any other way! :-D Bryen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

Cool! Have you gotten the word to the local Linux communities in San Diego or do you need someone to do that? Tony On Wed, Feb 2, 2011 at 4:42 PM, Bryen M. Yunashko <suserocks@bryen.com> wrote:

Please try not to top-post. it's considered bad form for a mailing list. :-) I have not reached out to anyone in San Diego yet. Except for you. I'm actually coming to San Diego to prepare for another conference (unrelated to openSUSE) that runs from March 14-19. And I expect to be arriving in San Diego around the 8th or 9th. I'd like to put you in charge of making those arrangements. And even more, reaching out to other openSUSE users in the area to come join us. It is a much better long-term goal to have the locals run the launch party than me (a guest from Chicago) as we want the locals in all regions to take charge of the events and other areas of promotion. So, if you make the arrangements, I'll follow your lead and we'll confab on what we can do at that particular date. Cool with you? Bryen
