[opensuse-marketing] Classrom slides
Good morning all. I'm working with a couple of local LUGs and associations to setup some [almost] free-of-charge linux classes starting from september. I was thinking (obviously) to develop the classes on openSUSE, and to give a 'gift' to attendees by providing them the DVDs with openSUSE and another with various documents/links, some of these taken from http://www.novell.com/documentation/opensuse111/ One thing that I will need to develop as well is the presentation to be projected during the class. Before to do 'duplicated' work, is there anybody that has made something similar already that wants to share to be re-used/adapted to the need? The plan is to make a 'fundamentals' class, an intermediate class (for users with some desktop experience), and a brief server class. I'll take care anyway to share the final document (whatever will be it's source). I really applaud what you're doing. The best form of marketing we can have is training and documentation. Most people trying to figure everything out by themselves at home with trial and error fail badly - either for lacking motivation, knowledge or time - or all three. Our lug has been discussing doing a basic course for desktop users. Didn't get much further than deciding on some topics to cover: * Introduction What's GNU/Linux, why use it, why not use it * Installation Partitioning, dual boot * Desktop The basics of navigating KDE and GNOME and some neat tricks * Package management Packages, repositories, dynamic linking, dependencies etc. * Command line Basic commands, file management, system monitoring, vim basics, package management * Troubleshooting and getting help basic tips like viewing logs, dmesg, trying a new user etc. Telling about irc, forums and maillinglists for getting help. * Free software / open source The history, the main licenses, copyleft, how the community works, economy -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org
