[opensuse-marketing] Dutch Social Network Hyves openSUSE Account
Hello everyone! With the upcoming openSUSE 11.2 around the corner I have decided to make an account on the Dutch social network site Hyves. Since there was no openSUSE account on this social network, I do feel (and think) that openSUSE should be represented on this social network. Specially since Dutch citizens are more familiar with this one, rather than the other social networks. Therefore, I would like to ask the following things. Is it able to use the openSUSE logo as avatar? Or is it able to get approval to use the logo on the account? What about other pictures and/or photos with openSUSE on it? Because if I am not mistaken, Novell has the copyrights of the openSUSE logo. Another aspect is, what kind of content should be placed? What kind of content is allowed to be placed? (copyright?) Should news of openSUSE be stressed, or practical information, or anything else? My personal view would be to give general and practical information (to those new to openSUSE of searching for openSUSE / why one should choose openSUSE) and news (to those who are already aware of openSUSE). With emphasis on the upcoming openSUSE 11.2. Any input would be great. And if there are other Dutch openSUSE users willing to help, you are more than welcome :) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

The rules on how to use the openSUSE Trademark are written down here: http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Trademark_Guidelines Henne -- Henne Vogelsang, openSUSE. You should be able to use the openSUSE mark, yes. See the section on "Advocacy Groups" in the openSUSE trademark guidelines. Novell does have the trademark on the openSUSE logo, yes. But Novell does grant permission to use the marks in some limited ways automatically without having to seek special permissions, as laid out in the guidelines. If the ways are not laid out in the guidelines, then feel free to ask permission. We can't just grant all permissions automatically, but the main goals are to use the trademark in a way that supports the community while making sure that the trademark isn't lost.

Anything newsworthy about openSUSE seems reasonable. I haven't used the service, though -- is it a microblog like Twitter, or more like Facebook? What kinds of content are reasonable for the service? Our news.opensuse.org content is available under the GFDL v 1.2 unless otherwise specified. So you should be able to repost elsewhere without problems so long as you follow that. And linking is always appreciated.
Should news of openSUSE be stressed, or practical information, or anything else?
Depends on the site. What's interesting to users there? Generally, the best thing with social media is to try to tailor information to fit the audience.
