[opensuse-marketing] French Translators
Hi, I have seen that you need translators according to this page : http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Weekly_News/Jobs I am a computer science student, I have already an engineering diploma and I am doing research in France. I can speak Arabic, French and English efficiently, and some little German. How can I apply for translating "Weekly News" page and what are details about this program ? Hi ! Welcome and thanks for joining! Your contribution is very welcome. For a quick start: Usually, the english version gets published on saturday. Then its being picked up for translation. The finished localized issue is then announced on e.g. the local mailing list and on the link page. We developed 2 tools: * a cmdline tool: http://software.opensuse.org/search/?q=weekly-news and * an improved qt gui tool: http://software.opensuse.org/search/?q=SUSEnews Both take the english raw wiki page as input and replace predefined strings. So you get the "static" content (section names, headers, footers) translated and only have to care about the actual content. ATM i see a french template http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Weekly_News/Translations/Template_FR , but no INI file http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Weekly_News/Translations/translate.ini_FR (see example for spanish http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Weekly_News/Translations/translate.ini_ES). So to use the tools, you'll have to create an ini-file first. If it suites your workflow - otherwise use plain templates or whatever you like. Thats the translation part. Then comes some formal actions: On the ready-table, we keep track of translations done/in progress: http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Weekly_News/Translations/Ready The translations-page is the main link page (per issue) and lists the finished issues/translations: http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Weekly_News/101/Translations So you'll have to update these after translation. Thats all. For the lokal wiki start page, we prefer now a small text and link to: http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Weekly_News/current/Translations (link/proxy to avoid stale links). Support: We'll happily answer all questions here on the marketing mailinglist and also on IRC: #opensuse-newsletter on freenode. Oh, i forgot to mention: We've to "form factors" - full and light. Full is probably obvious, it just means the complete newsletter gets translated. Light is a shortened version, which might also be a good start. Example (with slightly modified template!) us the HU wiki version: http://hu.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Heti_H%C3%ADrmond%C3%B3/101 Best, Jan-Simon Am Sonntag 13 Dezember 2009 03:33:55 schrieb Mohamed Ikbel Boulabiar:

Hi, I think you should send an e-mail to the french mailing list : opensuse-fr@opensuse.org because someone was in charge of the translation of weekly news some times ago. Cheers, Guillaume Mohamed Ikbel Boulabiar a écrit :
