[opensuse-marketing] New meeting times

Meetings can be a productive way to move initiatives forward. However, repeitive and frequent meetings can sometimes lead to a stale environment. At yesterday's regular bi-weekly meeting, we discussed this and came up with a new proposal: 14-December-2010 will be our final bi-weekly monthly meeting. After that, we will shift to a once-a-month meeting beginning in January. This once-a-month meeting will be fixed on the third Tuesday of each month. We will have additional meetings on an as-needed-basis that are focused on a specific topic. Otherwise, the regular monthly meeting will be the standard general meeting we've had in the past. Our focus will now shift to mailing list discussions. This will allow more people to directly participate in specific topics of their interest at a time that fits more conveniently for them, rather than adjusting to a scheduled meeting that may not benefit their home region. This will also allow me, as team lead, to bring more focus onto team action items and ensure that action items are completed in a timely manner. Our goal here is to give everyone the opportunity to use their time more efficiently and productively and we're confident this will help grow our team. If you have any questions, please do ask. It would be fine if whole project would follow your initiative. IRC is nice as real time communication and should be used for what it is good, but for regular meetings for people living in different time zones is definitively not a good medium. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

Agreed. I have a few concerns with mailing list and cluttering people's inboxes, so am sometimes hesitant to post. Also, as the archives show up in Google searches, it feels much more public than an IRC discussion (even if that discussion is minuted). But those are minor points. I'm keen to contribute and can't make most of the timings that suit EU/USA members for meetings, so it does seem like the best solution. (Another option is to make better use of the opensuse forums as a space for discussion, or to create a separate discussion forum for groups. I assume that's been considered?) I think it's important to keep things moving forward right now. best, Helen

Nah, good points I would even say. Sensitive things can and should be discussed in private mail... IRC, after all, is also public.
