[opensuse-marketing] github?
I'm far from being a git expert! From what I know, github is much larger in size (no. of users). Infact openSUSE is one of the largest gitorious users.

github has its own wiki, bug tracking, and greater commercial backing. gitorious apparently has better analytics, supports openID, has a wiki of it's own, which seems a bit less powerful at first look, and could be more willing to accommodate some of our eccentricities. The "free for opensource" option extends to having public repos and "public collaborators", whatever that means. This part is infact similar to gitorious' policy as well.

The advantages github apparently provides seems to be present already in openSUSE, albeit outside git(we have a powerful wiki, and the bugzilla seems fine but for it's being encumbered to the Novell domain). Also github pricing and requirements for the gratis plans seem an unnecessary distraction. Even "if" we agree that github is better, is the shift effort justified by the perceptive advantages? Do we really need a shift at this point? Besides, I assume most of us will be using CLI for regular access (I do, but I only pull). Is there really any difference in content management on the console?

As with jdd, I am no RCS expert. The ultimate decision should lie with what the content creators find most comfortable.

Github is better than gitorious in many ways, and we already use it for a couple of openSUSE projects (see https://github.com/openSUSE) The only real disadvantage is that Github is not free software.
