Hello, the semester is coming to the end and we have got some studying days. I was only in South Germany. Hagen was booked up. 05-10-2014/05-11-2014: We have got maths in Nuremberg. The studying center is the direct neighbour of SUSE. The academic is using openSUSE and explains graph theory with self written applications in Python. Linux is the theme during breaks. We are 50 students and many students are working as Linux Experts. They know, how they can get openSUSE and have fun with that. In the lunch time (second day) the academic began with questions: - When can I get the next version of openSUSE? - How do Linux developers work? .... You can have fun with such academics... Academics in maths are my favourite academics. They are all Linux enthusiasts. At first the professor with "Don't use the word with W in front of me!" and something like that in this semester. :-D 07-05-2014/07-06-2014: We have got OOP in Nuremberg. We are 12 students. You can see, how the distance university is sorting the students out. We havn't got any students working outside the IT area any more. All in our group are Computer Science Experts or graduates, who want to get the Bachelor degree in Computer Science. It was the first time at the FernUniversität, that I was allowed to see another female Linux-Systemadministrator at the studying day. She came from Hamburg. Other students were coming from Jülich, Munich and other towns. I don't know anybody in the group, who isn't working with Linux. All want to work in this area after the Bachelor degree, too. They are studying, because companies want to see that. The academic saied, the German industry would demand wrong degrees in education. We would have the right degree (Fachinformatiker). We would get a education for science at the university. You can find new friends from everywhere in Germany at such studying days. That' s great! 07-13-2014: That' s the last day in datastructures in Stuttgart. All lessons have been booked up. We have been 30 students from everywhere in Baden-Württemberg all the time (bi-weekly). Students have got different backgrounds. We are 6 women and a business economist wants to learn Linux, too. Sometimes she has brought her daughter (12) with herself. It was funny, if the young girl has asked questions about trees or something else. The best thing is, you would take this course parallel to maths. Student without a job in information technology have got problems with the material. You have to look after the practice for your own at such a university. I gave them hints like using coursera, edX and something more. The pharmacist in our group will follow that, but 3 female students want to have classroom teaching. They don't know, what a MOOC would be. That' s the way, how they will be sorted out. What a pity! 07-19-2014/07-20-2014: We have got maths in Karlsruhe. I can see the same students like in Nuremberg, but only 20 of them. The rest has broken the course or went for studying days to Bochum. We were a little bit surprised about the small number of students, but the scripts of the university were difficult to understand. You need a good tutor for that. You can't find special definitions anywhere in the internet. Example: - Where is the difference between a root tree (Wurzel-Baum) and a planted tree (gepflanzter Baum)? I am happy about finishing this course with the test. That was a overloaded semester for me. Generally you are taking 2 courses. A professor saied, I should do that faster. I wanted to test me. :-) It is hard beside the job and you are seeing many students leaving the course (90% until the end). But you can have fun with all the others. We are a university with about 85.000 students and you will have enough fellow students at the end.
