[opensuse-marketing] writing about cool stuff BESIDES OBS and tumbleweed...
I know, I know. The title must be weird. Do we do more than OBS and Tumbleweed? Actually, yes, we DO! Recent examples include us joining world IPv6 day, the kernel.opensuse.org page and there are a bunch of android apps too :D I would say it's worth pointing this out to people once in a while. AJ agreed but he doesn't like writing so tasked me to do it ;-) Now I need some other ideas besides what I mentioned - some cool stuff being done in openSUSE. Just fire ideas away! Anything goes :D Help in writing and/or reviewing would of course be appreciated... :D
Hey, great idea
Don't forget about Evergreen
In this month's magazine 'Linux Inside' I wrote an article about
Evergreen and Tumbleweed
I think I could write something about Evergreen as an article for News
if you are interested and I could do that in a short notice.
Also I now write about YaST, also we could write about KIWI, WebYaST,
that I can think for now.
On YaST we could write separate articles for separate YaST add ons,
such as the FTP server add-on.
I still owe the translation in Engish of my article about KIWI, but
this could take a while due to it's great length.
Also what about interviews from people of the projects? Not like the
openSUSE people ones but interviews in depth, analyzing and getting
more information than a wiki page can give.
That is for now

Cool, yes, I should mention KIWI. To elaborate a bit on what I'm looking for, it's mostly 'new, cool, small, not-promoted-enough technical stuff in openSUSE'. Wide scope, I know :D

My two cent. WebYaST +1. Gnome 3. I know we always talk about feature, but what about a Guide for Noobie, Linux Desktop that compare to common Windows apps. A guide to make the switch easier. I don't know if it's onlmy openSUSE as it's a kernel feature, but the 2.6.39 openSUSE KOTD kernel is able to run my GMA500 pseudo Intel video card (poulsbo) that is for a long time broken (no intel drivers). That makes my acer one netbook display 1366x768 pixels on a 11" screen, extremely neet (and the same as the competitor). It's a kernel feature, but I was not able to make it work my self compiling the kernel, when the openSUSE one work out of the box. jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.youtube.com/user/jdddodinorg http://jdd.blip.tv/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

BTW, what´s with SUSE Studio? Although it´s not part of openSUSE, it belongs to Novell (or SUSE? Did it changed to SUSE after the Attachmate-deal?) it´s a nice tool to create special solutions at the top of openSUSE. Or, another idea, what´s with the current foundation status? I read a lot news comments on Pro-Linux and there some people who are really afraid of the future of SUSE because of the Novell-Attachmate-deal and the contract with Microsoft for SLES and so on, and it would be nice for them (and for us) if we can ship monthly updates of the foundation status. Maybe we can combinate the advantage of a news portal and a blog here. There some people, who are into the whole founding workflow of the foundation. Maybe they can get interviewed or asked for writing a column or a comment like some people do on newspaper. thanks -- Kim-Dennis Leyendecker openSUSE Ambassador / openSUSE Wiki Team DE HAVE A LOT OF FUN! http://www.opensuse.org | http://www.suse.de Have you tried SUSE Studio? There has to be something to update them with, and we're still trying to get us a lawyer...

WebYaST is a good one. So is KIWI but it'd be nice to have it in English first :D I will ask the WebYaST team what is up with it, what's new. Another thing I thought off is smart and desktop environment specific MIME defaults, something Stanislav Brabec has been working on. I wanted to write about that months ago - I'll ask him for a status update.

I know, I know.
The title must be weird. Do we do more than OBS and Tumbleweed?
Actually, yes, we DO! Recent examples include us joining world IPv6 day, the kernel.opensuse.org page and there are a bunch of android apps too :D
It would be cool to get an article on zypper and all the cool new things that it does. This would require bugging the zypper team a bit I think. - Stephen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

- Stephen Would you be willing to take that on, bug them & get something back? It doesn't have to be a perfect article or anything, just braindump-style or bulletpoints, anything we can use to write the actual text...
If there are exciting changes, that'd be awesome. I have no idea so I do look forward to hearing about them. Be sure to ask for future plans too - one thing that I know is high on the request list is the ability to remove un-needed packages (libraries which have not been explicitly installed and due to the removal of the package they where needed for are now obsolete). If they plan anything in that department, that'd be good news.

I can't promise, but would like to. I'm actually going on vacation later today, so I won't have a chance to look at it much for at least a week or so. As for the un-needed packages that feature already exists at least in part. This is an example of what I was talking about :) There are tons of awesome features, but no one knows that they exist.
