[opensuse-marketing] Getting Started with Marketing Team
Hi All, I'm really surprised with this idea. It should be a nice idea to build opensuse-marketing team all around of the world. Thanks Zonker ! So, according to 11.0 release in next 2 weeks, maybe we can share any idea for promotional stuff, eg : hold a release party & install fest, preparing sticker and leaflet, presentation material (I look at a nice material on Linux Tag 2008 on wiki but some of them are in German) and create an installation tips for 11.0. -- Best Regards, Masim "Vavai" Sugianto /************************************************************/ Blog (ID) : http://www.vavai.com/blog/index.php Blog (EN) : http://www.vavai.net Community : http://www.opensuse.or.id /************************************************************/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org
It's a good idea. We can do general material and translate it to different languages. This from the LinuxTag is a good start point. I can translate it from German, but I think is better than a german user do it (I am from Spain). 2008/6/4 Masim Vavai Sugianto <vavai@vavai.com>:

That would be great.... Having some how-tos and translate them, especially for newbies, even the guide start guides (http://www.novell.com/documentation/opensuse103/index.html - but this I don't know if we can/should translated, and of course for 11.0) The how-tos I think should be interesting: *An installation overiew (something like http://en.opensuse.org/Installation/11.0_DVD_Install) *Tutorial showing some zypper functions; *Tutorial showing how to install Nvidia and ATI driver; *tutorial showing how to install a driver using ndiswrapper; and many others... regards, Luiz Fernando Ranghetti -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org
There are only 2 presentations on the LinuxTag Wiki on openSUSE. Knows anyone where to achieve the rest? We can begin translating the improvements and advantages of the new openSUSE version.

3 by now, friendly ask the remaining presenters for their slides (if any).
We can begin translating the improvements and advantages of the new openSUSE version.
Don't think the LinuxTag presentations will be a good base for that. Did you see that the Sneak Peeks series started again? Suggested topics at http://en.opensuse.org/Sneak_Peeks Afaik Francis will have not time to write all of them. Who can write? :-) Bye, Steve -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

I will write this weekend a review about the Yast Gtk version. The plan were to do it in Spanish, but I can do it in English too (with your language corrections, of course). -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

That would be great -- would you note that on the wiki, just to make sure there's no overlap. To the question of "Getting Started" with this team, Zonker, what "slots", if you will, are you looking to fill in terms of contributions by us? What are some immediate tasks that need to be fulfilled that we can do right here from the comfort of our openSUSE-powered computers? Hi Bryen,
To the question of "Getting Started" with this team, Zonker, what "slots", if you will, are you looking to fill in terms of contributions by us? What are some immediate tasks that need to be fulfilled that we can do right here from the comfort of our openSUSE-powered computers?
Well, with an opening like that, how could I resist? A couple of tasks that need immediate attention have already been mentioned: * Sneak Peeks: http://en.opensuse.org/Sneak_Peeks <- still need volunteers to write some of these. * Screencasts: http://en.opensuse.org/Screencasts (A howto guide on creating screencasts might not be a bad idea...) Longer term -- I am hoping that the marketing team can take the lead in working on community announcements, helping to coordinate openSUSE booths at local events like LugRadio Live UK where we might not have an "official" presence, and also conceive and coordinate community marketing campaigns. For example, the GNOME folks are having a openSUSE-GNOME Bug day -- they've already sent out an announcement to the list, but the marketing team might be able to find ways to promote that outside the list. And, of course, I am confident that the marketing team members will come up with new ideas and ways to promote openSUSE than I would think of on my own. :-) That's open source in action, right? I also like to idea of openSUSE screencasts. They are a extremely convenient way for newbies to get into a topic. Just two starting points: * O'REILLY digitalmedia: What Is Screencasting [1] * Ubuntuusers (German) contains many tips and links to free software for screencasting [2] * Wikipedia: Comparison of screencasting software I myself prefer Recordmydesktop [4], which makes it really easy to record a screencast. The main problem is, that you need a good story before you start recording ;-) Cheers, Marko [1] http://digitalmedia.oreilly.com/pub/a/oreilly/digitalmedia/2005/11/16/what-i... Well, we can post the PDFs, but we don't have source that is useful, because the flyers were created using InDesign. (I think that was it.) One of the things I hope the marketing team will do is to help create useful flyers, etc., using Scribus, Inkscape, OO.org, and other free apps so that all openSUSE users can benefit. Absolutely a good idea. ON that note, we do have some openSUSE posters (I know the SVG link isn't working, I'm going to remove it). http://en.opensuse.org/Artwork/Miscellaneous#Posters -- Kevin "Yo" Dupuy Public Mail <kevin.dupuy@opensuse.org> Yo.media: 225-590-5961 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

Hey! I'm glad you signed up - I've been meaning to email you about your post here: http://lizards.opensuse.org/2008/05/31/making-opensuse-110-liveusb-the-easie... That would be great to put on the wiki for permanent documentation.

Good ideas. We're already tracking launch parties here: http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_11.0_Launch_Party_Locations We should aim for launch parties from June 19 through July (no need to hold it exactly on the launch date.) I like the installation tips idea - or a general tips page. I've set up a stub here: http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_11.0_Tips If you have things to add, it'd be great. I'm working on a reviewer's guide (mostly for press) that I will put up on the wiki shortly and would also like to have reviewed by the marketing team. Thanks! Hi! popularity, much due to the sucess of Ubuntu, but SUSE has a growing number of fans too. openSUSE-related activities and happenings are pretty non-existant, but I intend to change that. I hope I will be able to contribute something to the discussions and ideas of this list. 2008/6/5, Joe 'Zonker' Brockmeier <jbrockmeier@novell.com>:

We should aim for launch parties from June 19 through July (no need to hold it exactly on the launch date.) I'm hosting an release party on the night of the 19th in Helsingborg, in Helsingborg (my place of residence). Something pretty informal, perhaps just grabbing a beer at a pub and showing of openSUSE or something like that. I am also thinking about organizing some more formal installparty later on in July, so inform all your Swedish friends. :-)

The wiki for sure doesn't need more stub or "please expand" pages ;-)...
If you have things to add, it'd be great.
Go through all openSUSE Weekly News issues and link what was &Tricks"?
