[opensuse-marketing] Request for promotional material for events in Thessaloniki, Greece
Hello friends, The LUG I'm member will participate to the International Trade fair in Thessaloniki, Greece [1]. It will be 11-19 of September 2010. You're welcome to visit my country. We'll setup a small area with computers with some games and we will cooperate with scouts of my city, for the parallel event Kids and Fun [2]. With this area, we will have a booth where we will inform parents and everyone who's interested about FOSS. According to their first page [1], they had 250000 visitors for the whole fair last year.We expect minimum about 10000 Adult visitors and over 25000 kids and teenagers to our event. Since it's Software Freedom Day during the fair period, we discuss with them to have a small booth dedicated to this special day for us. Since it's in discussion along with other parallel activities our LUG (and we as openSUSE ambassadors will be there), we didn't write it on the official SFD page, but we plan to do it until Thursday when all of this will be official. As ambassadors, we'll organize the openSUSE team (with Kostas Koudaras [3] who applied for ambassador) of the LUG to be present there. For that reason I ask you to send as many as cds/dvds you think we can have and also any other promotional material you can provide us. Language isn't a problem since there will be from other countries as well (the page [1] say 20 countries). Although we will translate and give away some kind of general information Brochure or Flyer about openSUSE in Greek. Also, on 1-3rd October 2010, we'll participate in an open event (Park Festival) about the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Scouts but this time we will have also a 2 small talks one for the kids and one for parents-teachers and a tent over the entire course of events. The talks will be about the FOSS and will present 2-3 distributions (openSUSE,Ubuntu,Fedora). I'm thinking to present L-i-f-e to professors-parents. For that event I was told that we expect about 2000. Kostas Koudaras [3] will help me organizing a small booth for openSUSE. So we also need promotional material. At the International Trade Fair (11-19 of September) and the Park Festival (1-3 of October) we will have mostly kids and teenagers so we already planned some games around FOSS and openSUSE but due to the long period of events if anyone has a good suggestion about a game so that we could keep their attention for more please tell us about it... For Software Freedom Day we are planning on visiting a junior High school (we will announce which school in a couple of days when it'll be official from both sides) where we will have the time to make an introduction of openSUSE (after our LUG's presentations of FOSS) to the students and at the end of that we arranged to have a meeting with the school teachers to introduce them openSUSE L-I-F-E and maybe make arrangements for installing it on a class for testing it. We expect on taking great amount of experience from all this and write everything about it on the wiki, along with any kind of problems we may find in our path.We will try and expect on expanding the Greek openSUSE community to another level. We can combine all three events on sending us promotional items, to eliminate costs. Incredibly cool, good work! If you send andreas Jaeger and Michael loeffler an email with the address the stuff needs to go to and an estimate of what you need, they'll take care of it!

Hello there, I was talking with friends about Fedora's cheat cube. Take a look [1] and [2]. This cube has the most important commands. Is it possible to make a similar for openSUSE? We don't want to to accuse us for stealing, but can we make something different with the same result (commands)? Pretty awesome. That needs to be on the wiki so all ambassadors can use it, and it needs to be there WITH the sources so they can translate it as well!

I've read all you said and I saw the cheat sheets you post, after
that I thought that the cube might not have enough sides and if Fedora
made it maybe we should try and make something slightly different like
a d8 or a d12, so I looked for paper dices,I found some things but
the best I found was at http://www.dicecollector.com/MY_PAPER.HTM .
Unfortunately I can't process it enough to make something beautiful

+1, anyone who has bought the SUSE boxes from before 9.0 will know that a 'cheat' item for SUSE has to be a polyhedron with a lot of faces. Although perhaps a 'cheat dodecahedron' where fedora has a cube might make us look hard to use ;). Maybe it'll make us hard to use but I think it's more about the
"playful cleverness" than the cube itself...

The Fedora Cheat Cube was constructed reducing and selecting a few commands. They don't put the whole stuff just selecting some commands to put there. So we could choose the most important commands too. If I can remember they did make some vote to choose which one is going to be set on it. Sounds like an excellent idea. However, Kostas already tried and couldn't manage to make a pretty complex shape. So who's up for trying? All the pieces are there - we have our old document with cheats and the question now is - who can make this into something pretty....
Not sure if anyone's posted it already, this rhombic dodecahedron is nice. Could save their calendar printout and use that as a guide for the text alignment. http://www.ii.uib.no/~arntzen/kalender/ or this http://creatrope.com/make/declutter-decision-maker/ big selection http://www.dicecollector.com/MY_PAPER.HTM who is it for? If newbies we could list some handy URLs / IRC channels for help. Maybe a file structure? I still forget where things are! (NetworkManager for instance) Helen
Another way if we can find an articulate polyhedron dice to set several commands on its faces.
Sounds like an excellent idea. However, Kostas already tried and couldn't manage to make a pretty complex shape. So who's up for trying? All the pieces are there - we have our old document with cheats and the question now is - who can make this into something pretty....

Kostas, does this help? Cuz with that printout it shouldn't be to hard, right?

Probably not a bad idea. Would however need a good evaluation of what info needs to go on there - that has been done before and resulted in the docs we have - unless we have the time and resources for that I'd say no. (and time & resources depend on anynone willing to do it, nothing else).

Yes,it helped us, we are trying to make something with Stathis
(Diamond_gr) but these days we are working for the 2 events and we
left for a while aside the dice project.
We are installing openSUSE on 3 old PC's they brought us for the event
at the park and we are also working our presentations. We'll get back
to it after October 3rd.

I am just started to play with the concepts and designs for making our dodecahedron possible. As soon as I am becoming familiar with the tools will release a draft. Best regards, -- Ricardo A.
