[opensuse-marketing] openSUSE landing page needs immediate updating
Looking at www.opensuse.org, I realize we are really not keeping up to date. openSUSE 12.2 is coming in just less than a couple of weeks. Yet there's nothing boasting about it on the website. It is still on 12.1. We need to replace the artwork (which is actually run by Countdown) and we need to change the text. Also, we are not promoting openSUSE Conference and openSUSE Summit. I propose we make two small thin banners across the top horizontal and side by side (each clickable to appropriate website) above the current graphics. Can we get this going and then submit the artwork to the appropriate powers that be? Thanks, Bryen M Yunashko openSUSE Project -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+owner@opensuse.org

Since Pascal who usually takes care of that seems to be unavailable I took the liberty to copy the 12.1 graphics, changed them to 12.2 and asked darix to deploy them. So the countdown is running now. http://en.opensuse.org/Portal:12.2 where the link is pointing to atm could still use some polishing though.

If anyone wants to create a countdown for that too, please have a look at the svg files here for reference: https://github.com/openSUSE/countdown.o.o cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.de/ SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendörffer, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+owner@opensuse.org
We could add a little bit of the the new wallpaper as the background. Here is a link to it. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1363018/fromXCF.jpg Andy (anditosan) On Fri, Aug 24, 2012 at 8:13 AM, Ludwig Nussel <ludwig.nussel@suse.de> wrote:

Feel free to revamp the svg files used for the counter and send the diff. I merely replaced the version number in the old files. I'm not an artist after all :-) cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.de/ SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendörffer, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+owner@opensuse.org
I just sent an update on the other thread. Take a look and see if it works for us. Andy (anditosan) On Mon, Aug 27, 2012 at 1:08 AM, Ludwig Nussel <ludwig.nussel@suse.de> wrote:

Ludwig, awesome of you to help out and get the countdown for 12.2 taken care of. Very good! I wonder if having three countdowns will make it too busy on the landing page? I think the thin bar banner on top of the page would be a better fit without radically redesigning the landing page in such a short period of time. Next, I guess we need someone from marketing group to update the text on the landing page. 12.1 All Green is now outdated. :-) Bryen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+owner@opensuse.org

Concept that advertise single release was always a bit short on information that visitors look for. In time after release when new one can have rough edges there is no notion that one can have previous one, so it is possible to install openSUSE even when latest and greatest still doesn't cover their needs. In time before new version is released it doesn't give people opportunity to learn about RC, which should be almost as usable as release. Not to mention that Factory has not even few pixels of a screen space, while build service has a lot. How that two are connected is clear to openSUSE-user-since-2005, but we probably want more of seen-it-today-and-like-it users. (I had recently reminder to open my new-user eyes when looking our infrastructure. This is one of those moments.) -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+owner@opensuse.org

I get what you're saying but I'm not sure how it pertains to the very immediate need we have for getting this up to date. With about 11 days left, we really need the landing page to conribute to the momentum. We've got momentum going in other places of the Project except on the very first page that visitors come to. This has to be resolved quickly. Luckily the countdown was resolved quickly, even if new artwork needs to be made for it. Maybe Jos can step in and get the blurb done for the landing page. But we also need the banners proclaiming Summit and Conference. Heavy advertisement is needed for the remaining weeks left for those two events as well, and both events will surely be important for 12.2 introductions. Speaking of Countdown Timers, I'm guessing that someone is re-working the graphics for this? The images are missing! On Sat, Aug 25, 2012 at 3:39 PM, Bryen M Yunashko <suserocks@bryen.com> wrote:

Countdown went south. There is nothing I can see on the wiki, landing page, my blog. Fixed blog. Changed URL to http://counter.opensuse.org and there is square 256x256 pixels image in my blog. Before link was http://counter.opensuse.org/medium.png . This doesn't work for wiki. Also, it is not possible to embed html in the wiki: -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+owner@opensuse.org
