[opensuse-marketing] easy task: oS release notes - GNOME 3.2
I just noticed the release notes for GNOME 3.2 are ready for translation. That also means we can include them in the openSUSE 12.1 release notes now! So, all it takes is to take these notes by finding the link in the blog: http://blogs.gnome.org/aklapper/2011/09/16/way-to-gnome-3-2/ and moving them to the current release notes. Izabel, Kostas, JDD - you should know the link to that, I don't - please reply it here :D Then when they're moved in there, they need to be shortened to about 2-3 paragraphs with the highlights. However, if you don't feel certain about that, just copying them in there is already a big help!!! This of course needs to happen for many other things as well so if you want to make sure we properly talk about what's new in XFCE, LXDE, Krita, GIMP, Inkscape etc - find the release notes of the major release which will go in 12.1 and copy them in! release notes?: http://ietherpad.com/12-1-release-notes but first, make sure we will have 3.2 with 12.1
Then when they're moved in there, they need to be shortened to about 2-3 paragraphs with the highlights. However, if you don't feel certain about that, just copying them in there is already a big help!!!
probably better give a summary and a link to the original

was mostly done (copying links) during the hack fest, we only faked sleeping :-) few people read release notes, if we make them too many pages long, nobody will. We also have to make sure what version is there, and feature freeze is only Beta (that is one week ahead) the sumaries will also probably find they way to the weekly notes and the Magazine, so work usefull :-) NB: we also have to notice that release note may have to be translated, so we have to give translators some time to do it jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xgxog7_clip-l-ombre-et-la-lumiere-3-bad-pig... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGgv_ZFtV14 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

We most certainly will.

Ok but not everyone might feel confident making that summary, that's why I say - copy it in and someone else can do the summary. Link - surely!

You'd be surprised how many people read our extensive "what's new in openSUSE 11.4" guide. More importantly, the press really likes it and uses it to write articles. It got us a LOT more attention, probably more than anything we did to promote 11.4!
the sumaries will also probably find they way to the weekly notes and the Magazine, so work usefull :-)

Tangentially related, there's a nice little etherpad-lite appliance featured on SUSE Gallery right now[1], maybe its time for openSUSE to hosts its own etherpad ? by the way, I could install etherpad-lite on my own server, following the instructions closely, so this should be obvious for any ordinary admin (certainly much more skilled than I am) you can test it here http://dodin.org:9001/ but as there is now no login restriction, this pad wont be available for very long (I don't think of my server as fitting the marketting team, although I could manage to make it in some way, but the power is not there) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://pizzanetti.fr -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

Something that it's not related to what you asked. I plan a Gnome 3.2 release party in Thessaloniki. I want to make some copies of the new 3.2 (of course I'm waiting to install it to my new MAC). Do we have a site-wiki where we can find it to download it? Or do I have to go direct to gnome's website? Stathis, At the minute we don't have a live image for 3.2 (unless you use Factory). Frederic (fcrozat) is working on fixing the last few issues now and will announce as soon as he is successful - hopefully not long. Hello Andy, I know that 3.2 is not out yet. I also know that Frederic is working on it. I'm talking about the official release. The party will take place 1-2 days later than the official release. I still try to find the cafe-bar. Thanks for the prompt reply.
