[opensuse-marketing] application catalog
Look at this: http://www.april.org/catalogue_libre it's a french brochure that do not advertise a distro but free applications it's sold at *0.5€* each (on paper, color), what I find extremely cheap. At first glance it seems to me specially fitted for ubuntu, (I don't know half of the applications). But it's a exemple of what we could do in several languages. This one is LaTeX, so may be not that easy to edit :-(), but I have also an other one, similar, on scribus. "what you can use on openSUSE" could be a nice title. jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.youtube.com/user/jdddodinorg http://jdd.blip.tv/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

50 ct? They surely can't be making money on it. But yeah, it's nice. Like many other ideas, btw :D If you or someone feels like doing it, I'd help out *a bit* but you probably have to be ready to do most of the work on this yourselves. Not that it's such a HUGE amount but I find many people simply don't have the balls to finish something like this ;-)

that's if balls are 'hours in the day' perhaps.... lovely idea, but return-on-investment? -- IRC: helen_au helen.south@opensuse.org helensouth.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

if the goal is to catch new users (not necessarily newbies, but mostly windows users), it's obvious: most people don't mind about Operating System (they don't even know what it is), but of applications. Having free, excellent and available applications can make them do the move. Having these applications available right at install time could be sufficient to make them move this is the *users* aimed campaign, when we moctly do in programmers direction by now (obs, studio). but are you sure there is no already existing product such these one in english? I wonder why France should be the only to do them? jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.youtube.com/user/jdddodinorg http://jdd.blip.tv/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

Foundations, Agencies, FOSS communities and individuals were working on Software Libre (Free Software) Application Catalog to make it available. CIDETYS published this catalog in Spanish. It's available to download. http://www.cidetys.org.pa/es/component/content/article/93-lanzamiento-de-cat... It's is work in progress so we expect to add more applications soon. This catalog received contributions from openSUSE, Fedora, Debian, KDE, GNOME, etc... The idea behind is showing Free Open Sources Software available for Windows or Linux and how it can help making a stronger educative foundation. if the goal is to catch new users (not necessarily newbies, but mostly windows users), it's obvious: most people don't mind about Operating System (they don't even know what it is), but of applications. agreed.
Having free, excellent and available applications can make them do the move. Having these applications available right at install time could be sufficient to make them move agreed.
this is the *users* aimed campaign, when we moctly do in programmers direction by now (obs, studio). agreed, and thats by intention I guess.
I would love if we point people to our app catalogue more in openSUSE, for exactly the reason that users do not switch because of the operating system but because of apps. And, yeah, we kind of have something like that: Try http://en.opensuse.org/Category:Applications and find an actually not so badly organized list. As often, that could make use of more love. Also interesting is http://en.opensuse.org/Application_equivalents which lists alternatives to windows software. regards, Klaas -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org
