Hi. Since this is a marketing mailing list, I thought it would be a good forum for my marketing question. When someone comes to me and asks "Which Linux distribution should I install?" I answer openSUSE without thinking. The next question is harder; "Why?" So that is my question. Why is openSUSE the best distribution? I know what my answers are: YAST - I believe it is the best administration tool out there. LSB - If you have ever tied to compile a complex application from sources on Fedora, you will understand why this is important to me. http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/LSB_Distribution_Status So let us make this a little bit more granular: Why is openSUSE better than Fedora? Why is openSUSE better than Ubuntu? Why is openSUSE better than Mandiva? Why is openSUSE better than Slackware? Why is openSUSE better than Debian? Why is openSUSE better than CentOS? Why is openSUSE better than Android? Why is openSUSE better than OS X? Why is openSUSE better than BSD? K. R. Hi, its always the same. Noobs come and ask which distribution is the best. The correct answer for this question is no linuxdistribution. There are many different of distributions for a many different kind of people. When someone come to me and ask: Which Linux distribution should I install. He get no answer. Try out what kind of user he is and which distribution is the best for him. Not say openSUSE is the best! Help him to find the distribution for him. Maybe it is openSUSE maybe its not. Maybe its fedora or debian, thats better you helped him as give him a false answer. Later he said, fedora or debian is my distribution but an suse guy helped me to find it out. The guys from openSUSE project are good friends There is no answer about which distribution or which desktop enviroment or which editor is the best. She always good every has good sides an bad sides too. br gnokii Am Freitag, den 10.07.2009, 11:52 -0700 schrieb Kevin Gallagher:

+1 I agree, but I also believe that the focus of this discussion is "What are the characteristics that led us to use it?" I was that when I install Debian (I love Debian), there was the drive to the hard disk. Not to use Ubuntu (¬¬), tried any distribution that does not yet know. Love the openSUSE because of their appearance, but then I knew the community, I saw how it was organized and well documented. openSUSE is now my distribuition and i spread the word. Why I use openSUSE? + Organization + Support + Community + Documentation + Administration + Appareance + Repositories On Sat, Jul 11, 2009 at 08:00, S.Kemter<buergermeister@karl-tux-stadt.de> wrote:

The answer I give is: There is many out there, but I recommend openSUSE: - I use it since 1998 - tried few other, well known, and not so known, and always came back - I can help you with issues. I don't know much about the rest and the help for them is limited to general Linux issues. Where is openSUSE better: - support for problems is very often "in house", you don't have to wade trough Internet to find solution - how fast are addressed issues, - how many issues are present, - how much you have to learn before you can use it Some can disagree that in recent years it is not the same as it once was, but that is the problem with others too. Smaller developers teams in other distros doesn't help them. -- Regards, Rajko http://news.opensuse.org/category/people-of-opensuse/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org
