[opensuse-marketing] release party in Budapest, Hungary
Hello, Yesterday we had our openSUSE 12.3 release party in Budapest, Hungary. We were the guest of the Hungarian Novell / SuSE office for some very fine pizza and beer. At first everybody introduced himself as many of us met each other for the first time. Then we had a long and lively discussion about the history and the future of the Hungarian openSUSE community. Of course there were some people claiming that in five years there will be no PCs, just some Android/iOS tablets :) But for the rest there were some really great ideas what to do to attract more for openSUSE. The primary focus will be strong presence at conferences, maintaining an openSUSE booth, and of course wearing the openSUSE T-shirts I received during FOSDEM, which I handed out yesterday during the release party. Participants were very enthusiastic, lets hope they will also be so for the rest of the year! Also it would be interesting to know some history of the Hungarian Community, feel free to share if you like :D It started a long time ago in the Galaxy :) And actually it's not really nice history, as it's a history of multiple small communities not much talking to each other for many years in a small country. But finally we were sitting in the same room, which is quite an achievement. Looking back the problem was most likely communication, long time Linux users wanted strictly enforced netiquette on mailing lists, while others preferred more open attitude. Personally I participated in both larger communities... Luckily, even if we have different communication preferences, we will work together on conference participation, have common openSUSE beer events, etc., so finally this divided community starts to talk and work together. Bye,
Have fun Kostas Koudaras
