[opensuse-marketing] RFC: International openSUSE and Linux events page in the wiki.o.o
I tried to sort out page: http://wiki.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Ambassadors/Events 1) Better name is "openSUSE:International events" Category:International events Category:Ambassadors (not changed yet, need discussion what names to use for article and categories) 2) Table layout: That particular page can profit from class="wikitable sortable" :) (done) It is too wide and fields are somewhat hard to read when wrapped. Main contributor to width is URL that can be put as link behind name in the column Event, and it is done for 2009 table (as a training for nerves :). That table can go to archive. It is better to keep only current table in user focus, with one link to archives if someone wants to search for past years. BTW, there must better way to follow events, either wiki table or real calendar (is there web application?). It is probably better to have the following columns: Event - Date - Place - Wiki article Event: Name and link to event web page Date: Date in some format that is sortable. Month Day (year can be dropped as it should go to the top of table) Place: Country, Region, City (we have to test is this sortable) Wiki article: This is where all information above can be repeated, plus added contact information etc. Opinions? -- Regards Rajko, -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org
Hello, Thanks a lot Rajko for working on this and sorting it out . . . On 06/12/2010 08:59 AM, Rajko M. wrote:

I am not sure whether to use "International" or not . As for me (staying in India) events in Germnay or US is an International even which will not be same for the residents over there and as we focus on the majority this naming wont sound good.Instead "Internal" and "External" is better IMO. As internal would define the ones by openSUSE (like conferences) and External would be Externals :-) (like Linuxtags and all).

Yes, that is much better. As I can see it is all that I like: * time is primary sort and it is in columns with navigation left and right to earlier or later time, like in majority of calendars, so it will be intuitive * table contains only titles of events that can lead to another wiki page that will gives details. Semantic Mediawiki can help to embed data from such articles in a single overview table, but ... anyone with time to read how. Here is the link to start with http://semantic-mediawiki.org/wiki/Semantic_MediaWiki . Notes: Yes we have it installed in a new wiki :) No, I have no time to do that, despite will to do it. -- Regards Rajko, -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

It is just that "Ambassadors events" as title is not really good. I would look at that title to see where ambassadors will meet to discuss marketing methods, present project, or simply spend time. "Events" alone is used in many topics and it should not be used for social events without any additional word explaining what kind of event it is. For instance we have events in the software used to trigger actions. "Marketing events" would be probably the most precise designation for majority of events, but some of events that an lend in the list are "Professional events" where pros exchange ideas. "International events" is probably the best choice. In international community as openSUSE there is always someone that can consider an event as international. In organization of that category we can create subcategories by continent, country, city, etc, so that people can access articles that way too. -- Regards Rajko, -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org
