Hi all,
Me and some others received a request from Remya Reghu to send him a DVD with openSUSE. Now I'd love to do that, but afaik nothing is organized for this and sending it from the Netherlands is a wee bit expensive.
So I have two questions for yah ambasadors: - Does the Indian Ambassador team have something arranged for this?
In that case I can send one or more of you the address of dear Remya so you can send him a DVD. I have, btw, already asked him if it is possible to download and burn it or put it on a USB drive.
- do we, in general, have something arranged for this? Should we?
We *could* set this up, maybe find sponsors for it - either local or international. In some countries with bad network it might be worth the effort, however, in that case I would immediately add a couple of other things like a DVD with sources (so they can develop! Very doable with Git especially) and possibly additional software (eg codecs, if it's legal in said country).
Greetings, Jos
BTW at everyone: I am still thinking about this. Andreas asked if we should have a page of (local) vendors who burn and sell DVD's. It could be linked to from the home page, makes sense to me. Who wants to create such a page? Otherwise, we're having the problem that we need to have local repositories of CD's which can be send around. For India, Neel and Sankar have offered to do this - which is great. We can send them a lot of DVD's and they can send it around. But we need someone in the US, Brazil etc too! Who's up for this? It's my understanding that some countries have a vendor that burns and ships openSUSE media for a nominal fee. India included. Perhaps we should set up a page listing these vendors or individual contacts in regions that people can reference? Just an idea.
A good idea. Any volunteer for starting to create such a page?
