Hello, i'm a french openSUSE user since 9.3, i read today the news about marketing openSuse and subscribed to this list. Is there any summary of the needs, of the projects ?
Just in case : Today i found up two things that'd certainly help a lot making more known Suse : 1- a ) good printed documentation given in the boxes (loks like it used to be bigger than nowadays ) That's correct we skipped the admin guide some versions ago as it added significant cost ot the production and in 2 of our customer survey on the question, what's important regarding our product Manuals always were rates least important. , b ) plus this documentation being translated (my aunt does not have a computer and for sure will never ever speak english ;=) ) That's a chicken egg issue. We once sold retail boxes in countries like Spain, France and Italy with translated box, manuals etc. But the sales volume was very low. Translation of manuals is an expensive effort. On manual side I'd like to see our manuals available in book stores with a DVD insert (but no installation support). If possible in local languages - but as explaind above that is challenging. 2- know clearly what is done with the money when we buy an openSuse box. This or similar might come in the future. Currently the income through retail box goes into Novell's pocket and they support the openSUSE project. What I can tell from today the income through retail box is way less than what's Novell is giving to the project.
Best M
If i can be of any help, please tell me.
