Hi ! This months I'm a bit offline (due work, etc...) but I read the (long) topics in marketing, and project ML... I think that a monthly news will be a good idea, and I could help to spread the word... Good idea this Geeko news! 2013/12/12 George Bratsos <bratsaki@gmail.com>:
I also agree for the monthly news.
For starting a project like that a monthly basis will enable more people to contribute and translators. If we manage to have it ready on time we can have it at bi-weeks.
Weekly basis was difficult also in translating as i remember getting involved with it, because if you do not have the right number of translators to distribute the articles to translate them the job is not done well. Also we risk the variety of news topics.
A monthly basis will also help us find news from the globe about openSUSE project and we will not pick articles fast in order to have them on time to get approved to be published on the news.
Let's start smoothly it is a big project as i know for my experience in managing the translations in Greek for a time.
In any ways i will help :)

As I see this subject is hot, I think it's time to open a thread, not to hijack the task one, so, feel free to give your advice here (I will give mine later)
some years ago :-), I installed etherpad-lite for the marketting team use on one of my servers. It still works, simply do not start at boot and is not protected in any way.
A similar install on openSUSE infrastructure should be nice (of course protected by our usual passwd?) - but for now I wrote some ideas on it:

feel free to add what you want where you want - it's only draft!
I have nothing against drive.google.com else than being hit by any change google wants to do.
same for paper.li that first ask to know all my facebook contacts, what I certainly won't accept.
Notice that I'm not against a monthly magazine, but this needs IMHO a much larger team that what we have now
I vote for a weekly news starting January 1st as small as necessary to be manageable KISS (Keep It Simple and stupid https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KISS_principle)

Well I wanted to do backwards, first look for more volunteers and then ask about the period of publishing but this fit nice too so.. thanks for opening this thread. BTW I think Starting january the 1st is a long shot but I think I got what you mean.
My other question is do we want this on the wiki as it used to be? I vote yes on that since for many reasons I find it easier to work on. To be more precise I am talking about this Template: http://en.opensuse.org/Template:Weekly_news_full
Henne I don't think the idea is to do something like paper.li, if we all are in the same page I think we are talking for something not so faceless(on the community side talking)
Stathis if translating is what you really worry about... don't. There are people who are willing to translate :D Translating the weekly news was always more fun that working on Lokalize or the Gnome tool that I am now forgeting it's name and it always had more people on board.
Also we need to work on the name. Since we tend to make it Monthly we need to change the name and of course we need some graphics along with tons of other stuff. I thing that http://dodin.org:9001/p/weeklynews that Jdd made can be used, at least for starters, I will come back tommorow to write a list of things that need to be done and then people go there and take tasks. If we are quick I think that we will be ready for an issue on January. Thats it for now Kostas
