Dear Marketeers! There was a meeting at oSC to talk about marketing, strategy and hugs. Mostly hugs, of course. Here some notes, courtesy of Izabel (I left the hugs out to keep it short): The first three items we could tick off quickly as they are pretty much taken care off by others: • Local coordinator / Advocates - in progress by board & ambassador team • Release marketing: http://board.opensuse.org/projects/opensuse-13-1-release • Events: TSP + New merchandizing cover this. ∘ Adds list of events to TSP app -- Izabel • GSOC promo ∘ Goal : Grow! ∘ Issue: ‣ Reputation of low success ‣ Reality of low success rate ∘ Solution: ‣ Celebrate successes • Articles on News -- GSOC team • Shayon's work on OBS should be visible on OBS itself -- Shayon ‣ Grow quality -- GSOC team • Prefer existing Contributors • SUSE will most likely help with mentoring existing contributors ∘ Must stay umbrella and work with others << Google likes it, we might even loose our own GSOC slots if we don't do it • reviving news.opensuse.org => 2 articles/week: Tuesday & Thursday ∘ Create Queue -- Jos ∘ Maintain it with weekly report -- Jos ∘ Regular articles planned: ‣ Monthly Events -- TSP / Kostas ‣ Monthly Board / Team Reports -- Board ‣ Monthly GSOC progress article based on student reports -- Saurabh ∘ Article sources for the rest: ‣ The usual news articles, sneak previews around releases etc -- all ‣ Go over our github and get articles out of there -- Manu ‣ Go over historical articles and revive some for re-use -- Manu / Jos ∘ Concrete article ideas: ‣ OBS article -- Shayon We also decided that 90% of the talk on the private news ML should move to opensuse-marketing@ for greater transparency and opportunities for more people to join our work. • Strategy There are strategy discussions again and we should try to prepare how to talk about them. Of course we don't know what the strategy will be in the end but we have some clues. We did some brainstorming on key messages and targets for our communication around the new direction, if and when it is there. ∘ direction things seem to be taking: ‣ FACTORY: • more stable (tumbleweed-ish?) • automated testing (openQA in OBS?) • maybe new name ‣ RELEASE: • smaller core, • more quality, • longer release cycle, • emphasis on OBS, • new name ∘ target groups for communication (check articles if they are covered): ‣ Users ‣ Developers ‣ Press ‣ Business ∘ key messages (basic ideas for articles/check articles if they are covered): ‣ Stable, quality, reliable, tested, process ‣ focused, core ‣ learning curve / easy ‣ stays the same ‣ flexible, choice (OBS) ‣ unique Feedback welcome, help too!
